Default I/H/E

This isn't your normal I/H/E question. I have decided on getting the Password JDM intake for sure and it's on the way, (right before I found out about the piston rings issue!) but my real question is I have an opportunity to buy a Comptech exhaust real cheap and my buddy says no way, the Type R is too good for that. I figured I could run that and get a decent header, (just saw a Comptech header going up for sale that looks like a good deal too) so that both will bolt up to the stock cat with no modifications. So what is your opinion? Do what I was planning like above, or do something like the intake thats on the way, JDM ITR header, TP, and good 2.5" exhaust? Post away with your thoughts...

JDM ITR header is the best bang for your buck, Get the JDM ITR Header, along with TP, and good 2.5" exhaust.

Depends on which header from comptech we are talking. The Race header? If so, I'd say get it if the price is right. They make decent power as well. As for the comptech exhaust, it's not a true 2.5" IIRC so you might want to stay away from it. GL

The One, what are your plans? Are you going to be a power freak where every last HP matters or just looking for good quality parts to get the job done?

I will just want decent numbers out of the car. I guess I will just go with a JDM ITR header, TP, and 2.5 inch exhaust. What can I do then to avoid the CEL?

There are several ways to rid the CEL. Depending on if you go to OBDI, it doesn't look for the second O2 tuner will take it out depending on EMS system.

You can get an O2 simulator too. Very easy to do.

Then there's the foil trick. Good for about 3-6 months at a time and cheap.

I bought a JDM header to replace the DC Sports POS that was on my car when I got it. Great choice your car will thank you.

Comptech made pretty good stuff. I only use thier Icebox intake but I've heard the exhaust on another ITR. It sounded great. Howver, some say that it doesn't really gain any power (or save any weight) over the stock ITR cat back. I'm sure someone that owns it will chime in for you.

Will running a JDM spec 98 ITR ECU also avoid the CEL?

I appreciate the link, but it does not help me with my question. It just shows the different codes and how to check for codes.

I've also thought about getting a comptech exhaust but heard similar things that you all have said. I currently have the comptech ice box and race header with the stock exhaust but have thought about changing my stock exhaust. I want a good quality exhaust that shows some power gains but doesnt have that ricer exhaust sound.

so i'm in for the info.

I used 2 spark plug defoulers. Cut the bottom of one out. Put your 02 sensor in it, then screw it into the second one, then into the bung. Works perfect.

Could you elaborate on the foil trick?

When running a test pipe, you will no longer have a Cat which minimizes the emissions out of the car. When the cat is removed and a test pipe put in place, it throws the readings all out of whack and throws a CEL. For a temporary solution, some people wrap the o2 in aluminum foil and for a short period of time, it works without throwing a CEL.

this is the best option available IMO.
