At the same time my AC/heater and stereo completely stopped working, my brake light came on & stayed on, the heat gauge shot all the way up (although no sign of engine overheating) and when I put the car in park the there was a brief grinding/chafing sound (happened in neutral too). Then when I tried to shut the car off, the key would not turn all the way to the off position. (Actually now that its light out & I can see - the key is either in off position or position III but it feels tight when I insert & remove the key & the key will not turn at all.) While trying to turn the key, it came out but the car was still running. Had to disconnect the battery to stop it. What is wrong? Are all these things related or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have no idea where to start!
