QUICK DIY: DC2 Side marker install
Ok so I picked up some JDM DC2 sidemarkers OEM from Honda for 30 bucks on ebay and installed them at work using a drill, drill bit, and a heavy duty saw zaw blade, and a metal file.
Here is a picture of my car before..
A set of Stanley 4043 sidemarkers OEM from Honda..
First off I searched here on the site for a template. Any one will do. I printed it off the website and cut it out with a razor blade. I first test fit the sidemarker inside the template to see how much I had to cut out to fit the sidemarker.
Once I had fine tuned my template and was happy with the fit, I picked a place on the fender a quarter inch under the body line. Once placed in a satisfactory position, I outlined it with a few layers of 3" masking tape..
Next I used the drill to drill wholes through out the outline. I did this because I didn't have a small enough metal nibbler. After going around the outline with the drill, making holes an 1/16" or so (not exact of course but real close together), I use the saw zaw blade to break through the remaining metal between the holes.
After getting the mass of the metal out, I used a flat metal file to knock down the jagged edges and to also remove more metal if needed to fit my sidemarker. It looked like this..
Once you have finished the hole and the sidemarker fits snug, you need to wire them up. Ok, to wire up the sidemarkers only for turn signals, use the green wire from the bulb that has 3 wires, and the black wire for ground. To have them on with running lights and blinkers, just use the green(+) wire and the black(-) wire on the bulb that has only 2 wires.
Here is the finished product. Didn't connect the wires yet in the pic..
lol, good write up, everyone always shows templates but not a write up. I have always wanted to do the side markers but im scared im going to screw it up... is it that hard?
ohhhhh i hooked mine up to the lil signal in the bumper light so when my lights are on there on and when i blink they blink. how do you wire it so they just blink?

In the last pic, the sidemarkers weren't connected, didn't have any wire at the time. But I only now how to wire it so they're on all the time, I like them like that (always on)

Yes, I just used the hole, I didn't line up the fender and **** like that...I just put it where it looked good. Hood is fixed, and lights are wired, will have pics soon. RAISE MY CAR? NIKKA IS YOU CRAZY?! (SNOOP DOGG VOICE)

is the side marker snap-on installation? you dont have to remove fender? and how are the wiring done. under the mudflaps? or behind fender? then how do you access behind fender.
The sidemarker location in this DIY is not correct. The forward-most point on the sidemarker lens (the middle of the curved end of the lens) should line up vertically where the lower body crease intersects the wheel arch, and the top edge of the lens should be about 1/2"-3/4" down from the upper body line in the fender. This places the sidemarker in the correct OEM location.
The little notch at the end of the hole should also face towards the door.
This shows the correct location:
This is the hole size. This is the location template for EG fenders, but ignore the bottom part showing the fender moulding. Only use this for the hole size. DO NOT print this out and use this as the template, unless you print from something like photoshop. I do not believe this will print out actual size. You need to verify the dimensions (in millimeters) with a ruler. I actually drew this diagram on CAD software at work to make sure it printed out actual size.
This is based upon actual photos of a JDM fender with the sidemarker removed. non-USDM Integras with the same front end as USDM also had their side markers in the same location.
To install my side markers, I removed the fenders and made marks on the back side of the fender, then cut with metal nibblers from the front. It's easier to follow your marks with a metal nibbler if you have the nibbler handles on the opposite side of the fender from your marks. However if you mark on the front and then come through from the back with the nibbler, it can chip off some of the paint around the edges of the hole. It's better to make the marks on the back of the fender, tape over the front side of the fender, and came through from the front.
Yes, I have done this more than a few times to the different fenders that have been on my car.
