Have a 97 accord SE, 2.2 SOHC non-vtec... 179,000 miles

The cooling system has been on the fritz for the past two weeks, and i'm trying things that aren't working.

The cooling fan does not go on with the engine, nor will it once the engine reaches SOT and beyond. It will however, go on along with the condenser fan when the A/C is switched on. It will also go on when the car is shutoff, and spin for about 5 minutes. Needless to say, it wants OH SO bad to overheat.

No loud whine that would suggest a bad water pump, but i haven't ruled that out yet.
I've replaced the thermostat, the ECT switch (on the t-stat housing), the coolant temp sensor (under the distributor cap), and the rad-fan relay,...

I need someone to explain to me what happens when a water pump goes bad so i can evaluate that possibility. I'm hesitant to just throw money at it if there is more it could be. I thought for sure the ECT switch would make the fan spin, but who knows? I certainly don't .

I have the same exact problem with my 97 accord... did u ever figure out the prblem?
