that deffinaly sounds like an axel poped out. Your trans has an open differiential, so power goes to the path of least resistence. If an axel is out just enough that the splines dont reach, then the trans will just spin, but not apply power to the other wheel. This would also explain why the VSS is still registering speed.

AWSOME!! it was the axle!!! thank god for honda-tech i would have had the tranny ripped apart by now!! thanks alot guys i really appreciate it!!!
Im glad it's that. My buddies 91 eclipse did that exact thing. He popped open his transmission and it looked like a bunch of marbles. Pieces everywhere. Got it towed to a shop, the guy had to order 36 new pieces. 1300 dollars in parts. Thank god we know the guy so he's doing it for 0 dollars labor.
why would you open up the valve body on an automatic transmission anyway if you dont know where the check ***** go. Those DSM trannys can have the valve body removed in 1 piece, there is no need to open the valve body unless you know what your doing in there.

Manual transmissions dont have ***** inside of them. The most it would have would be a roller bearing. Automatic transmissions have little check ***** inside the valve body to block or open passageways to route fluid from the pump.

As far as I know it was the teeth grinded off. Not saying it looked like marbles but more like a whole bunch of crap. That transmission was grinding into first gear even before the whole thing went. Not trying to get smart, because honestly i know nothing about transmissions, im sure you know more than me.
