Default ls/vtec having to run on non vtec ecu

my issue is i have a 2000 integra ls/vtec running having to run on the ls ecu, the car runs but it sounds like a loud truck, is it possible to chip the obd2 ecu or would i have to get a standalone to make the car run smooth. the car is throwing a cel but i believe that is because it's using a vtec engine wire harness and because the ecu was not meant to work with a vtec head, any other opinions? flame all you want just as long as help is given i'll think of it as constructive criticism.
I posted in the hybrid forum but this room gets much more traffic so i thought this would be the other choice to post in for help.

ok kinda cancel the running part but it should just be the throttle is not staying open enough at idle

the engine should run if it sounds like a truck i think its something in your exhaust or your manifold, if it idles low then check the vacuum hoses many turn up the idle screw a little bit the engine should definetly run not perfectly and you definetly wont have vtec so you might not want to rev it much.

ok the idle screw worked and it runs again( that was kinda wierd because yesterday it idled fine) I'll keep the revs down, the car is obd2 so i know i can't use hondata or crome but would aem ems work and allow me to get it tuned and have the car run smooth.

Hondata makes inserts to put in ecu's that dont come equiped with v-tec you might wanna think about looking into the s100 to s300 series upgrades form hondata they range from $200 - $600 depending all the user features you want to include

With an OBD2-equipped car, in order to tune it's recommended you get an OBD2-OBD1 patch harness. That will allow you to run an OBD1 ecu, and allow you to tune with all the usuals [Crome, Neptune, Hondata, etc.].

http://xenocron.com/products.php?page=convharness

^ That link has the product you'd need.

- edit -

I see you're in California ... it should really go without saying, that by using an OBD1 ecu, your car will not pass an emissions test. I would imagine though, you're going to someone who either doesn't care there's a head swap, or is passing your car under the table, so the ecu part shouldn't be an issue.

yup good things on this thread get a conversion harness aem ems might be too much for you its standalone engine management and will require like a professional tuner and stuff very costly. there is a way to get rid of the immobilizer on the itr ecu just research im sure i've seen it.
