A/C stinks what to do ?
I have a 97 LS and the air conditioner stinks when on. I do not have this problem when the fan or the heater is on, just when the a/c is on. What can I do to make it go away ? I have tried to blow it out just before turning the car off. I have tried running the a/c with the vent both open and closed but it just keeps on stinking. Need to know what to do. Thanks !!!
turn on your heater and that mildew like smell will go away.. I know the smell your talking about.. its nasty.. I usually turn on the heater and exit the car then when the smell is gone.. its all good for a while.. but it will come back = (...
The only A/C related smell I've encountered is a weird gasolene smell both inside and outside of the car after the A/C has been on. I took my car to the Acura dealership and they replaced some cannister (they warrantied it even though my car was 2k out of warranty
), and it hasn't smelled since (it's been almost a year now).

in all the honda's i've owned there has been this awful mildew like smell in the A/C when it hasnt been used for a while.. not sure if its CA weather or what.. I wash my car weekly.. so its not a dirt or cleanliness problem..
i used to spray Lysol into the vents from the outside. running the vents at the same time for a bit to let it pass through....
worked for me in the old R

I've never had that problem. The trick is to turn off your a/c while your fan is still on during the last few minutes of your trip. This prevents moisture buildup in your vents and the mildew growth.

do what i do, if you fart in your car and your gonna pick up some girls..or if your car just smells cause you smell, then spray a shot of cologne in one of your vents...it'll stay smelling good for the night! lol

turn on your a/c. let it run for about 20min so the moisture can build up. then turn on your heater with your a/c for about 5 minutes, then turn off the a/c with the heater still on for another 5 minutes. this works for me all the time. i usually go out for a short drive along the beach with the windows down while i do this.
Also, try running your A/C with the "re-circ" switch turned off, especially in the last 10-15 mins. before you arrive at your destination. This too helps eliminate the moisture within the venting system. I've been using this trick in both my cars for about the last year and it's made a noticable difference.
The idea of letting the fans run after the A/C sounds really good
One way you can prevent your A/C from stinking too bad is to leave the vent/circulate button on VENT everytime you leave your car. This will promote ventilation thru your car while it is off and reduce the smell (if not eliminate it)
PS Cologne in the vent works well too.

Get Lysol and spray it into the outer vents in front of your winshield. Do this while the fan is on in the car. Do it for about 1 min. The smell is from the moisture that left mold inside your vents.
