Default Tranny issues

I have a 88 hatch (auto) with 200k+ miles on it. If feels like my tranny is slipping when from 2nd into 3rd. I am going to change out the fluid, but would like to know if this will alleviate my issue or if I need a rebuild. I'v been told changing out the fluid at this many miles will damage the tranny. If a rebuild is needed, should I just get another tranny altogether?? Thanks for any input.

You probably do not need an entire tranny. Just have the clutch replaced.

Ummmm he has an auto

Unless you are talking about the clutches in the tranny.

If you dont want to convert to a manual I would just get a junkyard trnny.

usually when auto tranny fluid is old, the tranny shifts harsher.

The $10 test would be to pick up a 1 gallon jug of Pennzoil Dexron 3 tranny fluid at Walmart, drop the drain plug, refill with 3 quarts and see what happens.

Manual tranny guru, but I'm new to Honda's joke of slushboxes.

Thanks for the info, that did it. I bought the car with 200K miles, the cover plate apparently has never been removed, the tranny is smooth now.
