Good God.

Glad I live in NC. So in Virginia, you get one wreckless driving conviction, and they take a total of $1,050 out of your pocket for the next 2 years? What bastards.

I heard about this from my dad and I just asked Walker about this earlier today. Sucks big time!

The more I think about it, the more it screams "ABUSE OF POWER" in my mind... So the states starts a new campaign in the "Name of safety", when in reality, it's just another lucrative stunt, to kick the already tax paying citizens where it hurts.

This is bullshit, I don't even live in VA and I'm thoroughly pissed off.

VA fucted me once and i to this day have a very hard time forgetting it! I was wronged, and of all people GK has agreed with me. I won't ever quite understand their maddness for cracking down the way they do.

Everyone do yourself a favor though and put lock on your speed while travelling through VA. They simply don't mess around. I will be forced to explain my situation to future employers for the rest of my life.

meh. i think its good. maybe now they'll take some harassing away from the tuners because they'll be offsetting some income by all this. i think if you're speeding, you deserve to be caught. Virginia has a lot of freaking idiots and i think it might just need some new laws like these to give these idiots a shift kick in the ***.

the profit generated by these new "fees" will go towards the transportation fund of building roads in VA. If you are just passing through or in the military and are not a VA resident these new "fees" won't apply to you.

I assume all VA residents can expect police/state troopers to adhere to all speed limits, since its all about safety and doing 80 is equivalent to a hate-crime.

Long story short goes like this:

-102/65 on I-81 outside of Winchester, VA (straight, flat, dry roads...no traffic)

-Handed a court of summons for a month later

-Research to find out max penalty is 1 year in jail, $2500 fine

-Go to court only to find out that i am jailbate no matter (preliminary hearing)

-Higher an attorney for $2500

-Attorney finds out the judge i am to go before had a relative killed years earlier due to an automobile accident on the same roads i was travelling

-On the day of my trial i recieved a $900 fine tax included, 6 month license suspension in the state of VA, and was sentenced to 16 days in jail (12 of which were suspended upon good behavior while in jail)

Jon, how old were you when all that happened? Also, is there any way to get your record expunged after a certain length of time? Were you charged with a misdemeanor or felony?

Bastards

Found out the hard way that careless & reckless carries a misdemeanor in NC, but it's a lower level than that. Some of the best money I've ever spent, probably made a third of a payment on my lawyer's 996

well if it was a felony he would have been in prison for 3-5 years (usual average sentence length)...it was most like a misdemeanor wreckless driving...(hopefully that didnt come out sarcastic).

either way that's bullshit...i wouldnt have went back since i(you) lived in another state...

I suppose something can be learned from every experience in life. Whats done is done and there is no going back. The only thing i can do to be proactive towards the whole situation is try and educate those who aren't familiar with VA's absurd view of thinking.

On a side note..... having spent some time driving through and around different parts of VA, they really have some fuggin IDIOTS behind the wheel.
