IBTL. (cuz this one's probably gonna get out of hand).

Are you serious??

If so, please explain what you don't understand about auto transmissions. Like the part where when you want to go forward you put it on (D).

When you want to go backward, you put it on (R).

When you park and get out, you put it on (P).

Hope it helps?? I guess??

Instead of being a douschebag, why don't you just help him?

Put it in 'D'. In 1, you lock the tranny into 1st gear. In 2, you lock it in 2nd gear. In D3, the tranny will only go up to gear three (it won't lock it into 3 like the other two, it just caps it off at that gear).

When you're in 'D', the tranny can select through all 5 gears. You want to be in the highest gear possible for whatever driving condition you're in for the best fuel economy.

Leave it on D, the rest of the world drives on D, so should you! LOL, not trying to be an *** but common, If you leave it on any of the other D's you will revv the crap out of the engine at higher speeds

The manual for my 05LX with AT said drive in D for normal/highway driving. If you're in a lot of light-light traffic or heavy traffic in general it said to use D3 to reduce the number of shifts, better fuel economy and less wear on the tranny.

Sorry. It must be a subconscience thing from reading too many of your "helpful posts".

Always use "D", that way the tranny with change to the best gear for your driving conditions.

"D1" and "D2" are more for "special" situations where you need to lock your tranny in a specific gear for power, or to use the motor to slow down.

When I say "special", I mean you will probably never really need to use those settings.

yea ok calm down welcome to HT. some of us are like that here. its just that you have to understand that the questions we normally ask are more sophisticated than "which number do i drive in"

heres what i can some up..

D is for normal driving stop and go daily ****.

D3 is when you want to keep you car from going into its final drive. you know how you go up a hill and your car downshifts. your accelerating, but you want to stay at a speed. soon as you do that you car shifts into final drive, but then you slow down. get what im saying? so use D3 to keep a speed on hills

D2 can be used for downhill driving so you dont eat alot of brake. keeps your car from rolling faster and faster.

i think D1 is same purpose for 2, just much slower.

think about it, you dont wanna drive a stick shift car in first gear all day long (D1) or 2nd (D2). so thats going to really **** on your MPG's. D3 when you need it because of lack of tq.

to sum it all up. drive in D

Lol.. was that a serious remark. YOU are calling ME a '********', and questioning my 'iq level'. I came in here, told off that OTHER ******** for being a ******** to you, and then offer you info about your quesiton, and you call ME the ********?

Sorry man, next time I'll respond to your thread with a bunch of usless **** like other people did on here.

Now do you see why I responded the way I did Elohel??

I wasn't trying to be an *** to him, I genuinely wanted to know if he was serious.

Then you tried to help him and this is what it got you.

Oh well.

OK, a lot of others have said it.

You want the LOWEST possible rpm's for good fuel economy. If you accelerate gradually, you'll most likely stay under 3k rpms when the car shifts, this is good, because if you run it up, it burns more fuel. On the highway you should just leave it in 'D' and let it select gears on its own, cruising speeds should keep RPMs low.

MOST cars are at their most fuel efficient on the highway at around 65 mph, so if you can keep it there, you'll get good results. You should use A/C at highway speeds, because the power loss by running the compressor will about equal the distorted airflow by having your windows down. In the city, roll your windows down instead of the A/C.

Don't use cruise control unless you need a break on a long trip. Cruise control tends to make the engine work too much (if it drops a few mph, it will jump the rpm's up and use a lot more fuel than you would need to do the same gradually). By just carefully modulating the pedal on the freeway, you'll get better results.

Another thing you could try if you want is use synthetic oil. It CAN offer better fuel economy, especially in the winter, when oil gums up and synthetic remains very fluid if it gets cold.

Another tip: coast, coast, coast. If you see a red light up ahead, let off the gas and just let the momentum take you there. Braking is burning off the power you made, coasting lets the rpm's drop and the car's momentum carries itself.

Checking tire pressure is another good way to make sure you get good fuel economy.

Read my title

As for my IQ. I was a Honda technician for 4 years, and now I'm an assistant parts manager for them. According to my calculations I probably know a few things.

Sorry for bringing this thread back to life, but I felt the need to defend myself.

<------ I am, really.
