Default Automatic Transmission Question

I got a 98 LX Civic automatic that needs a new tranny. I have access to many EX automatic transmissions but no DX, or LX like my car.

Will an EX auto tranny work with my LX non-vtec motor/ecu? If not, is there a way to make it work by swapping a sensor or something?

WILL work... sorry.. he just needs assurance... I was bored with it and converted it to 5 speed 3 months ago.. If I still had the auto tranny in my possession I'd give it to you. Sorry

When I look them up on part distributor sites, it says DX/LX trannies are the same, but EX are different. You guys are positive this will work, or just assuming?

Keep in mind we are talking about automatic transmissions here. I understand 5 speeds all work together, but the electronics with an automatic have me a bit worried.

This isnt my car, otherwise it would be a 5-speed. So no, I will not be swapping to manual with this car.

Thanks for any help!

yeah same here. only manuals, where an EX is a simple bolt on upgrade. not so sure about this with an automatic...

the only reason I want to put an EX in is because of availablity. there were 2 at the local junk yard, i took one of them. so basically im just waiting to find out for sure if it will work before i go ahead and install it.

if you had to choose i would go with 96-98 civic ex tranny. Seems like nobody knows if a ex tranny would fit your LX so i'd figure your chances for a 96-98 auto tranny would fit.

well we know it will bolt up, and im pretty sure it will drive fine. the thing im concerned about is proper shift points and proper downshifting for acceleration, etc...
