Default K20a3 in EM2

Anyone on here have swapped a K20a3 motor into their cars? If so how does it feel about it compared to the stock D17's, or should I save up a little more for a DC5 engine?

it depends what you want. some people say that the a3 isnt worth it because you can just save up alittle more and get the a2, maybe even a k24. also the a3 is better to boost than the a2 because of lower compression and it's gear ratio.

for me...i just want an a3 because my em2 is a daily driver plus its an auto tranny. main reason is basically the tranny swap and save alittle more gas than the a2.

but if you have the cash..get the a2, its a whole better engine than the a3.

Think of it in terms of usable power. You have a stronger torque band in the A3, than your D17, so you'll feel the power more often throughout the rpm range. So, if you're trying to compare to your D17, there's really no comparison. The K20A3 will DEFINITELY have better power response, regardless of the rpm range. Will the A2 be stronger? Yes. Is it necessary? Not really, since you can almost copy the A2's powerband with simple bolt-ons, and even a head-swap. So, for the buck, I'd say just grab an A3 and if that's not enough power, add on to it down the road.

Sorry for the "interrumption", but let me re-ask this, since it's related to the main question.

In an older topic, I asked what could be the expected 1/4 mile times for an EM2 with a stock A3. One person said maybe high 15s, but I didn't get many inputs/opinions.

What would you say Matt?

I think high 14's to mid 15's would be a safe assumption, given the indefinite variables like tires, bolt-on's, and tuning.

Alrighty, you mean something like mid 15s if stock, and prolly high 14s with the basic NA mods right?

Another question I had on A3s, and I read this on another site, and now I can't find it is: Which one has the plastic intake manifold, the A3 from the RSX base or the A3 from the EP3? I'm not sure if this is correct, but I read somewhere that there's differences between the two and that was one of them.

If you know of any other difference, it would be good to know as well. Sorry for the multiple questions.

Base RSX - Plastic Intake Manifold.

k20a2 all the way.

everyone says "k20a3 is so much better to boost" no not really.. all the boosted k20a3's ive seen put down ~230whp maybe? Hell once you get up to 300whp (if your lucky) you gotta worry about the crank walkiing on you.

K20a2 + Greddy Turbo Kit = easy 280-310whp safely. with like 7 or 8psi.

Well, a couple weeks, but it's all the same. We're both going to the Import Alliance meet.

Do I sense jealousy?

Nah, we're not lovers. Just fellow RR Zenki EM2 owners. Burr, Vantage, and plenty others, sit in this category.

It would be very difficult and expensive to make an NA A3 swap = the same hp as an A2 swap. Honestly I think the only way is a head swap, and by the time you do all of that you could have had an A2 with good NA mods making way more power.

The A3 is a great engine if you plan to boost down the road. I have seen a A3 in an ep3 with a good turbo kit make over 300whp at 9.5psi.

The thing that is holding you back as far as building the D17 is the auto tranny, you will never make crap for hp with that thing. If you are looking low budget I would just boost the D, if you want a K then go with the K20a2 and learn to drive a stick.

just get an a2 its way better than the a3 and the a3 is more of an econo motor less performance oreintated. It will be better to save a little more money and get way more performance and a all around stronger motor for boost or na what ever route you take

srry to intrude... but i have a quick question?
how do u know the legality of the engine swap?
is their like a website that says a certain car cant have this engine
...
because i live in so. cali. and have a 01 ex, I've heard that as long as you have a newer engine in the car its legal... so does that leave me only with K- series?
