Default Owners with black ITRs: How much of a pain is it taking care of a black car?

I'm thinking of picking up a black ITR so I figured I'd ask. I have always tried staying away from black cars because they are such a pain in the *** to keep clean, but they look so damn good when they are clean. Anyways for those who own a black ITR, how has your R dealt against daily driving. Do you guys wish you had a CW or PY itr? Overall what are your complaints. I'm thinking of switching over to the dark side

It requires a fair amount of care so as not to induce swirl marks into the paintwork when just washing the car.

Some good polishing products and good polishing technique can keep your black R looking sweet though...

I think it's worth the pain.

My R with 142,000km (whoring it out) :-

Althought I think black is the sexiest color for any car, I wouldn't get another one just because of it being a pain in the *** to maintain.

Mine was too until a few weeks ago when I got another car to DD.

Black is both rewarding and depressing. When it's all clean and shiny, it's awesome... but it shows up everything like crazy when it's not.

People often comment on how shiny it is when I have just washed it. It's very rewarding to hear nice comments from randoms

I love it, but it sucks to keep clean. I'd consider a white one, but never yellow cause they so damn slow.

Believe it or not, when I saw this pic about a year ago is when I started to want a black ITR. That looks like some major detailing/buffing skill there. Im guessing you dont daily it.

Black is very nice when is nice and clean, I would wash my car and just park it in the garage and it would have a nice thin film of dust within half an hour. So if you are going to get it make sure you get a California Super duster http://www.californiacarduster....html I have two one small one thats in the glove and a big *** one in the garage oh and swirls are alote more noticable

Nothing really, I just make sure I wash and dry with clean sponges/towels and wax with a carnuba based product every now and then.

having a bk itr is hard to keep up at times, as of right now its my DD so it picks up a lot of crap, mostly dust and its in the rear area a lot as well! But yeah I wash it about each week since it's summer and polish and wax it about each month, hard work pays off

I owned a black car before that was my DD and promised myself to never purchase another one again..... I remember having to clean that car 3 times a week and I was working @ a detail shop at the time. What a PITA!!

I say get PY ....During pollen season..u can't even tell your car is dusty...

Used to think black was a color to be avoided like the plauge also. That's why I got a white GSR in 97 - thinking white would be the longest lasting color and not show dirt etc. That GSR sat outside all the time (no garage back then) and I washed it religiously once per week and waxed every 6 months. Admittedly, white almost never 'looks' dirty (even when it is) - that's a nice feature. But after 5 years, the paint on the top surfaces was pretty much ruined - rough, pitted, dull, wouldn't hold wax etc.

Got the NBP R in 03 - original owner had it garaged, but it was a DD and paint was in excellent condition. I let it sit outside for about 1 year and garaged ever since. It has 120k in 6.5 yrs so it gets driven a lot. The paint is holding up very well, but not perfect - from a distance of more than 3 feet it looks perfect. I wash it once a week and have been using instant wax on it every other wash - works very well.

After a few days, it will show dust and driving through a good rain will leave dirty streaks on the sides, but none of that is a big deal if you keep it waxed and wash once a week... Yes - nothing like a freshly cleaned black R...

The S is white (unfortunately) - don't think I would every get another white car... Would definitely get another black one however.
