I have a friend with a 93 Civic LX, SOHC. He bought it without a dizzy, now we have one. How do we set the timing? Is it necessary 2 take off the timing belt? And how to we tell the compression from the exhaust stroke at TDC. I assumed the engine was already on timing since the timing belt never came off, and that it would b as simple as making sure #1 was at TDC, and making sure the dizzy rotor pointed at #1, and it seemed like the dizzy only wanted 2 fit with the rotor facing one direction. If possible can someone explain how the hell do we get this engine timed and running, or point me somewhere where we can find out. And yes, i've searched.
you don't have find tdc if you haven't touched the timing belt. just slap the new distributor on and try to make sure its about the same position as the old one. get a timing light, jump the service port, turn on car and set timing.
