oil light comes on in my 91 teg
so ya...i replaced my clutch, rebuilt my tranny, and about 5 hrs i was driving home..and then the next morning i go to work,my darn oil light comes on.... CRAP...so i change the oil, pull the filter and find a hint of metal shavings..CRAP again...so i put 10-40 in there and new filter to see if it will help...nope..it didnt..so then i drove it for a day and then that night did another oil change...now theres brass shavings...so i changed the rod bearings and main bearings and there wernt and major marks on the bearings..my mechanic was thinking that the bearings were going to be really messed up cause the oil light,...but the motor only has about 110k miles on it...what might be causing the light to come on...oil pump,or something...we cleaned the oil pan, pick up tube and gridle thingy...cleaned them real real good....if i put like lucas or something in it...and the light will stay off for like a day....its something that i need to get fixed soon...so any help will be good...thanks
this usually means the oil pressure is running low.
I have similar problem now with my 90 teg; I have replaced the sensor but it still goes on and off.
My next step is to replace the oil pump, cross my finger and pray that's the problem.

Your first step is to find out what your oil pressure actually is.
I keep a cheapo $15 mechanical oil pressure gauge in my garage for exactly this test. Hook it up and see watch the pressure. If it looks fine, let the oil warm up and keep an eye on it. If you're dropping below....say 25, then it really IS low. If you've done the bearings now, I'd certainly look at the oil pump.

ok so heres the deal...after changing all the bearings and everything the light still comes on well it blinks..so i changed my oil pump.and we noticed that my oil pan was slightly caved in,just enought to push on the oil pick up tube and i think that it was starving oil because it was sucking in air..so once we did that i hooked up a gauge and i read 40 at idle, and 80 wot..this is cause i have a gsr oil pump.but the light still blinks and theres not even a sensor in the motor so i dont see why it keeps coming on..
The oil warning system is part of the Integrated Control Unit (ICU). I have a 92 DA and my oil light was coming on so the first thing I did was install an oil pressure gauge. The oil pressure was perfect. It is usually the sender unit, the old brittle wiring, or the ICU, but if you want a cheap fix, you install an oil pressure gauge and make a habit of looking at it often.
And going under 24 psi in oil pressure at warm idle isn't out of spec. For the B18A engines, the minimum spec at warm idle (that means the car is at normal operating temp and the idle is at 750rpms) is 10psi, and minimum spec at 3K rpms is 50psi.
My 92 RS's oil pressure is at 17psi at warm idle, and around 70psi at 3k rpms. When the oil is cold, the pressures are much higher.

ya,well when i rebuilt my motor this past weekend i went through an wraped everything up so nothing might ground out,and i just installed a oil pressure gauge..but im running the b18b gsr oil pump and at normal temp its at like 23-24ish when everything is warmed up at 750rpms..iono what it really is..kinda sucks but ohh well i have the gauge that i watch .
