HELP with Weight Reduction???????
Hey,
I was wondering if anyone knows some good ways to remove weight from a 5th gen prelude. I already removed everything from the driver seat back, cruise control, and added a carbon fiber hood. I need some more ideas to lighten up this heavy *** lude.
Thanks

power steering, ac, abs, evap, egr, cat, lightweight battery, carbonfiber trunk, carbon fiber sunroof plug.
However reducing unsprung weight is what will affect you more....wheels,brakes, anything not supported by the spring.

anything that isnt supported by the spring. Everything on the body of the car is sprung weight because the weight of it is supported by the spring. Reducing weight that is not supported by the spring has greater affects than sprung weight.

I wouldn't worry about brakes as much as Wheels...There isn't a ton of weight to be saved by High Priced Aluminum brakes.
Just curious as to why youre turning youre Prelude into a Civic? The whole idea behind the Prelude was to have a Road-Worthy car. People talk about the Prelude being heavy like it has a 1.6 liter under the hood. I say the B16 Civic Si is heavy as hell compared to a Prelude when you think about the power.
Everyone in the Honda tuner world is swapping engines except us? Coincidence?
Bone stock its still the Fastest Full Production FWD 4cyl Honda has made......

Good question.......I would guess they are slower 0-60 and close 1/4 mile.
My brain is just programmed to compare cars that were around when Preludes were still in production. I think you know where I am coming from.
We can't compare 2006 Tech to 1992 Tech fairly.
The NEW SI is damn close in weight though.....and only sporting a 2.0 liter.
So.....I say
for stripping a Prelude down unless you're racing it regularly. Why not just buy a Civic?

I just don't see the reason for gutting considering the weight savings. You said it, beautiful interior.
To the OP, I would start thinking about what you want out of the car.....
My Street Prelude has everything still intact except for the interior of the trunk, spare, and hood. Sure the cars a little heavy compared to some gutted out tin-can of a Civic(I own a gutted Hatch) but 2.2 liter FTW!
I can't live without power steering and cruise in my daily driver.....

yea not having at the minimum PS in chicago would SUCK. even not having AC would suck when you're stuck in traffic because they're always "improving" the e-ways. 92 and humid without AC would be death
if you live in chicago, you parallel park. i'm sure same goes for other big cities.

92 degrees? OMG, I think I might melt in that weather...
try 100+ with humidity here in the south. northerners think they have summers bad. Its not even begun to get hot yet and it was 96 last friday

dry heats are easy to deal with. You know its humid when you walk outside, your glasses fog up, and you automatically start to perspire.
