Default 16 x 8 wheels front and rear.

Just wanted to know what your guys' thoughts were on running a set of 16s this wide. I really want to go back to 15s but I might give these a shot. My old 17s were 7.5" wide and I had absolutely no problems with them. Wai gave me some pretty good input earlier on some things about them, just wanted to see what everyone else thinks, especially those who've tried them. Thanks.

I run 16x8s on the front only, Rotas w/45 offset. No rubbing probs with 215/45-16 Azenis. Fenders are NOT rolled.

Havent tried them on the rear, though.

When I got my caR, it had been used for show, and had some JDM 8" Volks on it, f&r, and was lowered. I think the tires were 225. I only ran it for a short time before changing out the wheels, but although close, there were no clearance problems with the stock body work or fender liners. I can probably go back and find the tire size and wheel offset if you need it.

I will also be switching to this same set up for AutoX as soon as I get some suspension under me.

It all depends on what you want the car to do, in a but shell, the more tire (contact patch) you have with the surface the more grip.

Thanks jety, Wai mentioned to me that you might run those for AutoX.

I ran +38 16x8" volks all the way around on my R with 215/45/16 tires. Depending upon camber settings, you may not need to do much in the way of fender massaging.

FWIW, you guys running your ITRs in STX, I'd seriously look at a 17x7.5" wheel with the Azenis 215/40/17. Much shorter sidewall.

Although the new bridgestone RE01R throws a wrench in the works. I'm not sure the 16" 205 is still enough tire for the R. Matter fact, I know it is not.

STX? I just had a set of 17"x7.5" TE37s on the car, for about 5 years. Time for a little bit more meat.

Ok, that's nice... Give us the low down on the +/- of the set up.

if we're purely referring to street tires...

...sometimes it is not about more 'meat'.

If you are strictly autoxing, then transition and slaloms plays a huge part in your overall time. And since street tires have really weak sidewalls, keeping a very low-profile tire will often help you more than slight overall treadwidth will.

FWIW, I think the Azenis 215/40/17 on a 17x7.5" rim might be faster than an Azenis 215/45/16 on a 16x8" rim. Handling will certainly be a lot more crisp with the 17" tire.

I'm all about the shorter diameter 16" tire, but no one makes a good 225/16 that'll fit on an ITR and will suit a 16x8" wheel.

Yeah I need to check what 17" sizes the RE01R comes in. It certainly is outpacing the Azenis.

The 205/45-16 RE01R is very very wide, I believe wider than the 215/45 Azenis. But damn them ***** are expensive

Thats what I thought too, but afaik some race Hondas use wider tires up front, thats why I asked.

I just run the same size tire but on wider rim. 16x8 front, 16x7 rear both with 215/45-16 Azenis. Car rotates fantastic.

I'm running 16x8 +35 all around with 225/45/16 A048's. Car feels great on track, I had to play around with camber settings and tire pressure to get rid of the understeer though.
I'm thinking about trying a skinnier tire in the rear next season and see how that would feel.

Hahaha..
Oh, I think it IS overrated still. Expo sure proved that stock is plenty sufficient.
My thinking on that is though, if I go to a 16" rim it is gonna look even more like a 4x4 than it already does.

Didn't know you were planning on going 16s, any reason why?

US front end w/ 16's it does look kinda 4x4, JDM front w/ 16's looks proper... weird.

If you're going with the Azenis, I would go with 215/45-16 on a 16x7.5 rim, or 205/40-17 on a 17x7.5 rim.

That's because the proper size is 225/40/16. The tire is too tall currently when compared to the original 195/55/15 or more popular 205/50/15 or even the OEM 215/45/16.
