Default Please I need to know the difference between an H23A1 and H23A3..

Hi thanks for looking. At the moment I have a blown H23A1 on a 92 prelude and I'm looking to swap an H23A3 JDM motor into it. My questions are though, what's the difference between the two? Secondly, will I have any issues with KL emissions? Are there any problems with the wirings? Finally, is the H23A3 OBD1 or OBD2?
Thank you for any info.

Ask user saikou, he just picked up an H23A3. I know it has a different valve cover from an A1, internal coil distributor, knock sensor, and auto tranny. Not sure what all else...

So, how will I connect the internal coil distributor to my external coil plug/connector?

To what? You want to add a knock sensor to a block that doesn't have it or what?

Its a Euro Accord Motor.....
-H23A3-
2259cc
DOHC 16 Valves
87x95 Bore/Stroke
9.8:1 compression
158Hp@5800 RPMs
152Tq@4500 RPMs
Count on everything being the same as a USDM H23A1.....From what I can tell it was OBD2.

According to my knowledge, the H23A3 was offered in both the Japanese & European markets. I asked Steve @ hmotorsonline, but have forgot what vehicle he said the motor came out of, in Japan. In Europe, this motor came out of the Accord wagon. There is a lot of false information floating around about this particular engine - hell, I could even be wrong - so I would give hmotorsonline a call and find out for sure.

However, upon retrieval of my H23A3, everything Hawkze posted is correct - different valve cover, internal coil distributor, NO knock sensor, and auto tranny. Everything else about the motor is exactly identical to that of the H23A1 motors that we are familiar with in the states. Mine is an OBD1 engine.

You will need to remove the knock sensor from your blown H23A1 and use it on the H23A3. Same with the external coil distributor from the blown motor, swap it over. Do not use the internal coil distributor from the H23A3.

Wierd...saikou's A3 had a different VC that says DOHC 16 valves. I'll post pics of it soon on my car because I stole it, ahahaha!

It's OBD1 for sure. It was not in Wagons for sure (Wagons= F20B3, F22Asth).

Accord 2.3 iSR
Chassis code CC7 1993-1996

The same engine was installed in Rover 623.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't the Euro R Accord Wagon came with a factory Vtec H23?
Engine code H23 no A1 or A2, right?

There is a port for the knock sensor - same location.
