Default What gauges to buy?

Hey guys i got a 92 accord.

I really want to fiberglass my own 3 hole gauge pod and mount it in my car..

with the gauges im really going for more of a look then performance or accurcay since i dont race yet.

do any of you know where i could buy 3 gauges for under like 50? at max. i know its cheap but its because i dont care how well they end up working honestly

so any recomendations would be good!

That's extremely lame. I guess you could get some stickers that look like gauges if you just want cheap looks.

buy 3 of the cheapest clocks at wal-mart. take them out of their casing...and put them in your guage pod

3 gauges for under 50 max. hahah. i dont even know what to say. 3 gauges is going to cost you AT LEAST a 100 dollars without a pod. But if your willing to spend a little bit of money eurolite makes good gauges.

ok i think you guys took that the wrong way. but its my fault

YES i do want them to work, but they do not need to be like pinpoint accurate.

ive seen some on ebay that are like $50 after shipping but thats with the pod so i was wondering if i could save like 10 15 since i dont need the pod.

all im really doing this for is so that i can practice doing fiberglass work before i do a couple other things with it.

lol, well if they work they'll be accurate? unless you just hook the power up and not any actual monitoring wires

you get what you pay for, if you see people dropping $200 for gauges and you spend $50, what do you think the results will be?

I'm sure they'll work, but they'll be cheaply made and cheaply looking.

I wouldn't recommend going all lickety split to fiberglass your dash if you've never worked with fiberglass before. Maybe you should try and design your gauge pods out of some material and then fiberglass them. If you're happy with the result, go ahead and fiberglass them into the dash. But glopping fiberglass on your dash and having it turn out looking like a dog crapped on your gauges wouldn't be ideal. Once you finish the gauge pods, save your allowance for a year and buy some good gauges. If you want to add on extra gauges now, I'd get an oil pressure gauge, an oil temp gauge, and a "Danger to teh manifold!!!" light up screen in the third pod.

i dont believe i said i never worked with fiberglass. because i have. alot. i just want to get creative with it.

i fixed my entire body kit after my car got wrecked by getting slammed over a road median.

so i think what ill do is. design a box with like 2" holes or ill decide on a different size. then mabye pay like 50 a gauge and drop them in one at a time as i get the money. sound better?

only thing i would recomend is decide which guages you are going to go with that will fit your budget and wants. last thing you want is to create a pod you really like only to find out the guages you plan to use doesnt fit in the holes.

you could buy like a temp. gauge to show you how hot it is in the car.. you can buy a compass gauge and a clock gauge!

autozone has a set of guages, 3 in the set, for $24.99. i dont remember the brand, but i think it was voltage, oil press., and water temp. they are small though, probably about 2" or so.

You can get a nice set of used VDO gauges on ebay if you search for them. They are typically out of mid 80s audis, VWs and Volvos. a lot of times they will come with a section of the factory harness and if you are lucky, they will come with the senders. I have a set in my car that I got shipped with a portion of the harness and the senders for $42. VDO makes quality stuff as well so you don't have to cheap out on the quality.

mine are just like these

the volvo ones are kinda funky

and the ebay search
(vdo, audi, vw, volvo, porsche) (gauge, gauges) -(glow, reverse)

you can get the senders for them for pretty cheap from http://www.egauges.com if you can't find a set that includes them. I reccomend that website at any rate. good prices great service.

you say you aren't into racing "yet"? worrying about how neato your cheap ebay gauges look is not a good step towards racing... take the $50 and go buy some go-fast parts. or part... or half of a part.

i didnt really look at them that close. but they look like **** quality. for $25 i wouldnt trust them on accuracy. as far as how dated they look, i think they were just plain white faced guages with a silver bezel. dont know what color it lights up, most likely just a plain white bulb, and i think they were black needles..but if your just looking for some guages to go with your experimental pod then i guess they would do the job.
