Default K20A2 and K20Z1 differences

I work at a honda repair shop, and I'm doing a motor on an 02 rsx, and the kid who owns it provided us with a k20z1 instead of another a2. Now i know these motors are very similar but will his computer for the A2 run the Z1? Are they different like the d16z6 and d16y8 with timing changes and stuff like that? Plus where did honda find the extra 10 HP in the z1? Is it just in tuning?

the a2 ecu will run the z1 i have this same swap in my car after i blew my a2 but tell him to get k-pro so it will run smoother. the main differance is that the z1 has more aggressive cams so the a2 ecu doesent really get the right cam angles so the powerband isnt as smooth

ok that my though that the cams may be different. I doubt this kid will be spending money on KPRO after droping upwards of 4500 on this project. If anything maybe we can find him a z1 ecu. How shitty does it run with the A2 ecu? Will it harm anything or is mainly just lack of power compared to what its supposed to feel like?

I say get the right ECU. That's what I would expect from a shop. At least tell him what you found out.

it runs fine i just wouldent push the motor too much but once i put a z1 tune in my kpro it just felt more powerful and smoother but with the stock a2 ecu it still felt better than when i had my a2. also i dont think you can put a z1 ecu in an 02-04 rsx becaus eof the different wire harness and i dont think it will read the speed sensor. oh and another thing did he just do a longblock swap or did he get an 05-06 tranny also because if thats the case the speed sensor on the 05-06 is diff and the a2 ecu wont read it

oh jesus, this is going to suck.

The place he got the motor from told him it was a 2002 type s motor however i noticed today that it's stamped k20z1, which is obviously the 05-06 motor, so i'm like wtf here. I need this thing to be drivable. But he just got the long block so i'm assuming i won't have any problems with the speed sensor unless this kid does get the right computer. How much is kpro anyway? isn't it like a grand?

well that definitely isn't an option. Any negative long term effects on using an a2 ecu on a z1?

trust me its driveable my car ran fine on the stock a2 ecu but its just better if he runs kpro to be on the safe side tell him to run the a2 ecu until he saves up money for kpro or he might be able to run a type R ecu because i think the cams in the z1 are the same as type R

thought the 05+ ecu uses a different harness and thats why when upgrading to kpro from 05 they must use an 02-04 kpro'd ecu with a harness and also an 02 o2 sensor

So with the more aggresive cams on the Z1 are the 05-06 faster than the 02-04?

So i went to go start it today, and it doesn't have any spark. I confirmed the wiring is good, and i'm not getting a signal from the computer to the coils. Any sort of acura magic needed here or does this thing need a computer like i'm thinking it does?

did you use the 02 ecu? did you use the 02 wire harness? did you install the ground wire on the intake manifold?

Wait up Dont he 02 rsx type-s Come with K20C's?

Edit: Never mind that, Found the reason why

SCC was wrong, like DM16 in calling the engine the K20C. It's a common mistake. Honda Japan and Honda Europe have no engines called the K20C. Neither does Acura.

In early Type-R prototypes the engine was called the K20C by a few magazines. That's why there's that mistake flying around. It's not C, and there is no C. It's a K20A AFAIK
