Some dick that owned my GTI before I bought it put tint on it and did a half-*** job of course, I was able to get it off w/ "sticky stuff remover" and a razor (like you'd use to scrape off an inspection sticker on a windshield).

I'll have to try this

Take a razor and pull the tint off. Buy some off that adhesive remover from autozone or somethin and wipe it off to get off the left over residue. Assuming its not a hatchback the rear windshield will be a mother.

The film is on the inside of the glass.

It will take about an hour to get all the tint itself off. The residue will come off pretty easy if you use an adhesive remover. I used the "Bug and Tar remover" from autozone. But if you have more money than time go for it.

Yeah, I don't know where they sell 'em, I just use a regular razor blade, but every shop has 'em. I'm sure they're readily available.

Haha that looks a lot better then when I duct taped a razor to a flathead.

damn i want to remove my tint... but every shop tells me that there is no way to remove rear tint without damaging the defrost lines... but i cant even see with the tints so i rather just take them off and not have a rear defrost

It can certainly be removed. Most shops simply don't want to go through the trouble, especially if you won't be giving them the business of installing new film on the car.

If you follow the procedure in the link I provided, you shouldn't have a problem. It's not fun and it might take a while, but you should be able to get it done Even if you do end up with a damaged defroster, it's normally an easy and inexpensive fix that you can do yourself.
If you scroll down there is a how-to in this link.
The remover that they talk about can be purchased at Advance Auto I know for sure.

This is hella easy. It's just a big sticker on your window. Find a corner on a window, slide a razor under it and peel slowly. Then spray soapy water and scrape window at a hard angle to rid of the sticky gunk.
i agree with the heat gun and the razor. works wonders especially when its really hot outside. as for the back window just use a razor on a corner and then use the heat gun to peel it smoothly. i did this last week and none of my defroster stipes got damaged. good luck.
im not talking about any of the other windows.. i can remove those.. all im talking about is the rear window that has the defroster lines on it... i dont even wanna touch that thing because of the defrost lines
