Problem with my GSR after valve job and skunk2 intake manifold.
I just got done putting the car back together after a valve job. I installed new valves along with skunk2 valve springs and retainers. While I had the head out I decided to go ahead and install my skunk2 intake manifold also. I got the car started and it has a problem.
When I get on the throttle past like 30% at any time the car will choke up and stall. If I get on the throttle lightly it will rev up. It will sometimes rev up from idle up to 4000rpm. When the car reaches 4000rpm it will choke and the rpms will drop and stall. If I press down on the throttle more to keep up the revs, it will choke and stall out.
I checked out the spark plugs and the car is running rich. I checked the timing and its good. Check engine light is not on. Would the problem have anything to do with my installing the skunk2 manifold?
I'm not sure what else to check but any suggestions would be great. I need to figure out the problem to get the car back on the road asap. Thanks in advance.

that what your problem is , the ecu is thinkin that stock intake manifold on there but it not. your butterflies open at 4400 rpm then again when 5800 when vtec comes on.

close but no. butterflies only open at 5800 and vtec is at 4400.

so the problem is the ecu? I didn't know the ecu had to be changed when installing a intake manifold. Can anyone verify this?

the stock ecu is designed to work with the stock dual stage manifold. you typically lose some midrange when installing single runner manifold and keeping the stock ecu.
but, it sounds like you have other issues as well.

forgot the mention that my car is a 2001 GSR. I'm trying to source a chipped p28 ecu with the same kind of mods I have on the car. I'm out of ideas of what to check. Might just throw back on the stock intake manifold and see what that does. any other ideas would be great. Thanks
Just putting on the skunk2 manifold with stock ecu should not cause the problems you describe, all you should see is a decline in power in the mid range but it should continue to rev to the stock redline. When I changed to the manifold on stock ecu the car still ran fine except for loss in mid range power.

yeah. I just put one on my 99 GSR.
The OP: Your problems seem to be that you're running too much fuel. Are all your vacuum lines connected properly? Fuel pressure regulator line? Do you have a stock regulator or aftermarket.
Are you sure its running rich? Make sure your TPS isnt plugged into your MAP and your MAP isnt plugged into your TPS. The plugs are the same. Make sure everything is plugged in and tight.

Check you MAP and TPS sensors! That is definately what happened to me! Sounds it exactly like it. Second since you removed your intake manifold and your throttle body make sure you bleed your coolant system.

Yes I double check the vac lines and they seem right. The regulator is stock.
I'm sure its running rich because I pulled out the spark plugs are they are super black. I'm going to double check the plugs in the morning.
