Default Just finished painting my hood , Need some help on wet sanding, etc

Greetings!

I am new to this body paint.

I have just painted my hood, it turned out great, i used Rust-O-Leum? paint.

After it dried up, I had lines and you can see the little bumps from the brush.

I was wondering what kind of sand paper do i use(grit)? and if it is better to wet sand it.

Also, what do i do after i wet sand the hood.

Also I was thinking about painting the whole car, and I want to use a spray gun. I have heard around and seen the prices on a "decent/good" spray gun. Anyone know where you can rent one? I figure the spray gun would prevent a LOT less of the little lines and shapes created.

Any help would be appreciated

wet sand with either 1200 or 1500 for buffing

if you are just looking for a smooth finish you could use 600 or 1000

i hope you used a roller and not a brush...

first coat? if so then that wouldnt matter. just scuff it. then do another layer.

air gun or electric? i got my electric running one at home depot. decent price..you can always paint your fence or outdoor chair table with it too, lol. good luck.

Yeah a brush might not have been the way to go. Go with a 1000-1500, then if you dont have a buffer finish with a 2500. Go cross directionally with each successive paper. Then use a rubbing compound or meguiars medium cut cleaner. From there you can go to a fine cut cleaner or swirl remover/ ploish of choice, then after a week or two slap some wax on. A lot of guys will say wait longer to wax, but I get rammy. Good luck....Also, its a good investment buying one of those 30 dollar cheapo buffers. It'll really spped things up.
