Default h23a (vtec) & (non vtec) swaps

how did you like your h23a (vtec) or non vtec after you swapped it.
how was it better than your motor befor the swap?
how easy was it?

I got an h23a non vtec and its pretty nice and goes good with a lightened flywheel, the install is pretty easy, but I just made the coil internal and some plugs need to be dealt with, and thats pretty much it.
Honestly if you can afford the h23a vtec you'll probably be happier in the long run.

No, not really...why do you say that. They may have lower compression, but that's about it. A boosted H22 will make more power in the end (considering the heads/cams were both stock setups).

If you have 5k to work with then just get a h22. Depending on where you get it from they might infer that you will need different axles and stuff but you don't. If you just use your fuel rail and your distributor there are only 3 wires that have to be ran (2 to the ecu 1 to ground). Anyways, you should be able to find a h22 for under 2k easy. if you are installing it, you have an engine that currently runs, and you want to spend the rest of the 5k, build your block and you can do what you want later.

I currently have something similar to an H23 nonVTEC. I had a OEM H22 build before (type-S cams/pistons). The H22 made more power but the nonVTEC engine makes up for a difference of 10whp by giving me another 10-40 more ft/lbs of torque in the midrange (see link in sig).

As far as boost If you're looking for a cheap and reliable swap for that I would go with the JDM DOHC F22B. It has iron sleeves where the H-series don't, swap in some forged pistons and rods and you should have a robust enough platform for 15-18 psi with decent tuning.
