Default AEBS lost me 8 Horsepower?? WTH

Does anyone else have any experience with this manifold? I dyno'd my car before the intake manifold at 145hp on a stock b16 and it lost 8 hp and some torque with the AEBS manifold. Its at 137 now with a tad lower torque.. Is tuning required to get the most out of this thing?? it made my power curve really really choppy as well. I don't know whats goin on here lol Anybody!!!???

the AEBS manifold works great. you just need to get retuned for it

What you're probably experiencing has been noticed by a number of people that switched out their b16a intake for a type R style (AEBS). They all tended to lose low end and midrange with some minimal gain in the very top end. At the very least you need to tune after a change like that but don't be surprised if your stock manifold performs better on a stock to mild b16a.

you have a stock b16, with no work done to it, no need for a intake manifold, unless you have a cam, or comp upped. You can retune, but thats a bit of a waste to pay all that money for 2hp, just hold out on the manifold until you get a cam/headwork/etc

yea that manifold was not designed for a stock b16.
they were designed with the intent to help guys out with a better flowing mani that could take better advantage of compression and headwork. Get some supporting mods (i.e. maybe some ctr cams and pistons?) and that manifold will help u rather than hurt u, either way... great manifold. GL man

Except for price that manifold sucks. It is great for the E-bay builders, has nothing to do with BHP.

Yea same dyno same day, but owell I just assumed that it was going to gain a little bit at redline and just move the powerband more north. Im keeping the manifold on for when I do get into head work. thanks guys

I'm not sure why people waste their money on aftermarket manifolds, a stock P30 (2nd gen b16 manifold) makes power for the street than any others i've ever seen

Thankyou! I've never understood all the hype over this manifold?

What is so bad in this manifold? Where it loses for say, TypeR/Skunk2/Blox etc?
Bad casting/finishing quality or some clear design flaw?

the casting sucks. if you try and improve you will run out of room and port through the manifold.. its very thin in some spots. if you want to say run a 68mm throttle body you cant on aebs.. you will break through.. its just not a good piece to start with.. so many other choices that are so much better..

i run a itr manifold that i ported on my 2.0ltr engine that made 268hp with that manifold.. im waiting for the skunk2 composite manifold to come out.. unless i go with a set of jenveys..

bottom line, if its not an S2, Rocket or the ***** of the week...then it sucks. my AEBS worked flawless and made good power, but, who am i to say different? on a near stock b16, every aftermarket im, s2 & blox included, will lose power. especially if its untuned.

The AEBS works very well as a bolt on part. If you try to port it or add a larger TB there is not enough material. The Edlebrock's or Skunks do not have that problem. Just satisfied with bolt-on's they are fine.
