Fiberglass question inside
hey guys i have been searching for the past couple of hours through the archives and stuff and cant find anything but dead links and useless info.
so here is the situation:
i have an after market fiberglass front bumper
i have two holes about the size of my fist on my front bumper how do i close them up?
also there are a few other places that i would like to make fit better (around my headlights and fog lights)
cant find any how-tos on this subject for some reason.
if you can help me search too that would be awesome.
so anyone know how to work fiberglass or any helpful links?
TIA

I actually fixed a Backyard Special bumper that had 2 huge holes in it. I sanded the back down and layed a couple of sheets of fiberglass on the back overlaping the hole about 2-3 inches on each side. Then I came and filled the front in with some fiberstrand followed by a thin coat of filler. I really didn't use much fiberstrand since the glass layed in the hole pretty well. The guy hasent had any problems with it and its been about 2 years now. Hope this helps.
okay sounds fairly simple enough. i have never worked fiberglass before so can you explain the process to me?
how many layers of mat? cloth?
how much resin and hardener?
filler like bondo right?
as you can tell my knowledge is slim to none on this one thanks again

I used the cloth with about 3-4 layers on the back. Overlaping as you go about 1/2 inch. The resin should use 10 drops of hardener per ounce. I wouldn't really suggest using bondo. I only use Evercoat filler products, so I couldn't tell you about Bondo. Though I have heard bad stories about it. Fiberglass is very easy to work with. I would suggest using a paintbrush to apply it to the fiberglass. Goodluck and post pics of the process. If you need anymore help let me know.
