Noobie to alarms
Hey guys, this one goes out to the true honda wiring gurus . . . so im planning on building my own alarm . . . i currently have a standard alarm with ign. kill and add-on door locks, since my 96 civic dx came with manual doors. Now my question is that is it possible to buy a HIGH GRADE alarm, BUT not install it with the remote start. Since almost all alarms come with it. and my second question is, is it good to buy NEW UNOPENED alarms from ebay? [ this one goes out to those who have actually boughten ebay alarms] THanks guys! i appriciate only the positive feedback
First, buy your alarm from an authorized dealer, online or local retailer.
There are many good "high end" alarms, without remote start.
Compustar has an alarm, alarm/remote start and remote start versions of all their systems... http://www.compustar.com/main.htm
As does DEI in most of their lines, Viper, Clifford, Avital, Python, Astroflex and a few more... http://www.directed.com/
What is it you are looking for in an alarm?

well i want a 2 way pager of course, some kill switch on it, audio sensor for any glass breakage(which i already bought), door locks, hood pop, and ive ben reading in some threads about being able to open windows with the remote, that sounds something i wanna look into. but yeah, it sounds like a basic set up, but i want something like that.
Then the Compustar P2W9000FM-A is what I would recommend...
- Includes starter-kill relay
- Battery backup capable
- External Siren (six-tone)
- Optional super bright blue LED
- Driver's priority unlock
- Ignition controlled door locks
- Includes dual stage shock sensor
- Secure valet switch
- Anti-Jacking mode
- Remote Paging System (can unlock vehicle via pin code)
- 2-auxiliary outputs, expandable to 7 with Channel Expander
- 2-programmable inputs
- Selectable trunk release output
- Horn trigger output
Add to it your glass break sensor, the unit has an extra sensor input.
If you want power window control get the DEI 530T, it will give you up and down control of 2 windows, it will fully automate the windows, up and down, and it has a "vent" feature.
Windows will automatically roll up when alarm is armed.
Windows can be rolled up or down with alarms remote.
If window roll down button is pressed within a few sec. of arming alarm, windows will roll up and then "vent" [roll down about 1"]
Not sure what you mean by "hood pop"???

thanks bro that sounds good to me.
and about the hood pop, i ment trunk. but yea that sounds like a nice alarm.
NOW, being a noob to this, do you think it will be a pain, or okay for me to do this on my own?
I know how to solder already!
one more question, i know some parking lots are real dicks about turning off the alarm, is it possible to turn it off or how does that work???

Why would you turn off your alarm in a parking structure? I would adjust the sensor so that it would not go off if a car drove by it. Or bypass it from the remote control. Some alarms have this feature.

If the alarm is installed and adjusted properly there should be no problem with "falsing", the Compustar, like most alarms, has a valet mode, or service mode, key-less entry still works but alarm does not arm, however, I agree with killer why would you not arm the alarm, especially in a parking lot or parkade.
I have never heard of anyplace that does not allow alarms to be armed, and if there is, it's a dumb unless of coarse it's secured and they patrol it constantly.

well at my school in santa monica, above the enternce of the parking structure its says to PLEASE SILENCE ALARMS, maybe i didnt word it right to you guys but that is what i meant. sorry about the mix up.
As I said, if installed and adjusted properly, it will not be a problem.
If they mean that they want you to "silence" the arm/disarm chirp, that's not a problem with the Compustar, or most alarm systems, they can be programed off if they want the siren not to sound at all then I would just install an on/off switch on the siren output line so it can be a "silent alarm" all other alarm functions including pager would still work.
