Street Legal Turbo for Prelude SH?
you know if you turbo an SH, there is a good chance you will no longer have ATTS. It disables at 250whp. Please research about turbos before just slapping one on. SH's aren't really made to be upgraded too much besides bolt ons. You're gonna have to do an OBD2 --> OBD1 and drop the ATTS.
Oh, I'm only looking for about a 7psi boost which'll bring me to about 235ish WHP. I'm looking to keep street legal because I've been rolled three times in the past six months and had my hood popped. I got away every time because everything I have is legal. I'd rather not have to deal with remove and install.
Yeah, not looking for any serious horse power. Just enough to give STi's some trouble.

Where can I find this CARB Exempt Turbo kit made by Turbonetics? Can anyone provide a link? I looked on their website and found nothing about CARB Exempt turbos.
I can't really help you with finding it, but do you have stock internals? I mean you can probably run the turbo, but you have a higher chance of killing your engine. You might wanna sleeve the block and throw lower compression pistons. There are many stories of people leaving stock compression and losing the life of their engine, while others have no problems. Honestly even with 235 whp you will not keep up with an STi.
=/ Yeah, I was thinking of getting the lower compression pistons. And to top it off, it's even worse for my engine considering I have the H22 Type-S with a whoppnig 11.5:1 compression ratio. PERFECT for boosting. I thought it'd be a bad idea for my engine.
Should I just go N/A and go full Skunk? That way the dollars I spent upgrading to a Type-S won't die in vain? I thought it'd be a waste to just swap out those Type-S pistons.
And I think 235whp for a Prelude would be well more than enough to spank some STi's. STi's are at about 220whp because of their AWD drive train. They'd probably get us Preludes on the launch but at 3400 lbs, I'd have my money on the Lude, don't you think? I mean, I've beaten a regular WRX with my Type-S on the drag strip before.

Doing all motor is not easy, and won't push you too far beyond 210-215 whp. And that'll require quite a bit of money. With type S pistons no way you should turbo. I don't know what STi's push to the wheels, but 220whp sounds way too low for me. But back to the point, your only option really is NA, and adding a few things such as customs headers, intakes with BPi, exhaust, TBs, and a nice tune. I say just do a few more bolt-ons and you are set man, but trying to get to 230 whp on NA is not going to happen and your turbo idea won't work with type S pistons. Sorry.
Yeah, there was a lot of sarcasm in my last response. I should've noted that. But yeah, to my knowledge, the STi is 300hp at the flywheel, not at the wheels.
WRX 3500lbs 220chp
Type-S 3100lbs 220chp
WRX + Prelude Type-S = Good Race
STi 3500lbs 300chp
Type-S + 7psi 3100lbs 300chp (Modest Approximation)
STi + Prelude Type-S+7psi = Good Race
*Chp = Crank Horse Power
WRX 3500lbs 220chp
Type-S 3100lbs 220chp

Yeah, the Type-S is supposed to be 220chp which is approximately 190whp. 180whp w/ ATTS which is what I have. ATTS begins to have trouble @ 250whp, which is my ceiling. So seeing as the Prelude Type-S w/ATTS has a 20% loss to the wheels, 300chp should bring me to about 245ish at the wheels. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
do you just have type S pistons though? I don't think they will give you another 20 hp honestly. Type S engines also have Type S cams which, which add a few hp as well. S i mean you might be around 210-215hp, which is probably around 170-180 whp. But I still recommend getting sleeves man with lower compression, your car might run for a little while, but it won't last anymore like a Honda should. I don't know anyone with that sort of compression with a turbo, it usually isn't a good combo.

It doesn't really "disable". Your car is just making more power than the unit is capable of handling and thus the ATTS becomes 81 lbs. of dead weight.
Also, I've seen plenty of people run that modest (7 psi) amount of boost on a stock motor. True many blew after a few months, even weeks, but a few have lasted years with proper knowledge, but as always, it's about tuning.

I own a STi with turbo back exhaust and a protune. I put down 311 whp 320 torque. Most STi's arnt stock and have bolt ons like me. Keep in mind a good driver will hit 1.6 to 1.7 60' times.Good luck!

yea thats what i figured bout STi's, ~300 whp stock, regular wrx is more like ~220 whp stock. on a side note, i saw a HOT chick driving a new WRX the other day, i mean driving the CRAP out of it, so hot, and another one that i see a lot, driving the crap out of an Evo MR, sexy girl and car

No, I actually have the entire Type-S motor. Which to my knowledge basically has higher compression pistons and more agressive cams. But yeah, I don't think I'll be boosting my H. Thanks for the advise.

Nice numbers... 60 foot times are nice too. However on the highway AWD no longer has an advantage. A prelude with the same ballpark figures is the faster car. Not trying to sound like a bench racer or anything but its true. Mainly contributed to the weight of the car.

You still need the same general basic setup. With JRSC you won't push as much, but it'll respond a lot better to street driving. But I still think you would have to drop compression to do so, sorry to say, I say just throw some bolt ons and call it a day with a type S engine.

Def true I walked a wrx with my accord back in the day. If we went from a dig he would have got me. The accord(20xwhp) is still so fun to drive. You wont be dissappointed with a built n/a h22. If your set on boost throw some mahle pistons in there with some rods and call it a day.
