Default Port & Polish

When should your vtech kick in w/ a good ported & polished head? should it be before 5000 rpms, or about 5600-5800(like normal vtech)? this is based on a 97-98 b18c1.

"vtec" activation should be kept at the stock setting. even if u have a full blown headwork, if the cams are stock then the stock setting will do. port and polish only makes ur engine breathe better. u will have to get agressive cams to compliment the port and polish job. moving the vtec activation point up or down the normal setting won't do anything for ur setup. if anything, it will hurt performance since the stock cams are limited as far as power production is concerned.

thanks....would a vtech controller be helpful, or can it hurt you? of course depending on how you drive...but in general if done correctly?

"VTEC"...Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Control. a VTEC controller will not help u right now. it'll come in handy in the long run when u get aftermarket cams, and all that stuff. just make sure that u hook the vtec controller right and double check ur wiring. otherwise u'll get a "check engine" code.

until u get the proper combo (cams, gears, i/h/e, etc.) for ur engine, i wouldn't mess with the ecu. leave it as is for now since u don't have the proper parts to mess with the ecu's mapping. like they say, "why fix it when it is not broken?"

hth.

Using stock vtec x-o point, a vtec controller like the afc would allow you to tune fuel curves... otherwise... it's useless for any vtec funtions.
