97' civic keyless entry? will it work without stock radio?
Im just wondering if there is another way to get my keyless entry to work without my stock radio because i just got a stock cd player and the plug has nothing to plug into on the back, so i was just wondering how else i could do it..........(97' civic ex) thanks
You have a radio without the keyless brain. If you want the keyless to work, it won't work if there is nothing to recieve the signal. You need a radio equipped with keyless.

Wrong. At least for the most part. Use the 99-00 Civic keyless module (its down by the drivers side kick panel/hood release cable) and it will work flawlessly. How do I know? Well, I have it functioning to stock specs in my 96 hatch right now.

Basically your only way around it is to hide you OE radio behind the dash, or get a new keyless entry setup with a differen't alarm/brain

Or do what I just said and still have the OE setup.

I'm saying, if you have a '96-'98 Civic with keyless and you remove the stock radio, the keyless will stop working.
Why install two parts to make it work like one part would if you're okay with having the stock radio (as compared with an aftermarket one) anyway?

like ek forever guy said...an easy and inexpensive way of doing it is to wire up both headunits and hide the stock one behind the dash (i hid mine behind the cupholders). when you buy your adapter harness for the aftermarket deck, ask about a "T" harness to wire both decks.
