Default Black as a.... well u pick one that wont offend

Im by no means new to cars or auto repair. But as most of you know I have a 97 Base
Got it a few months back. love it.
But....
Last night I had it floored to redline in 3 gears as my buddy was on my *** in his s2000.
He said my exhaust was very black and smelt super rich. I know rich is normal but my car is rediculas.

WHat do you guys think?

New Fuel filter
Clean intake and egr ports
New plugs wires and cap/rotor
New PCV
No CEL
NEW O2 sensor ( wouldnt make diff at WOT anyhow)

but i do have cracks in my coil, whats the deal with that. but no problems starting or idle.

Thanks guys, and as you know im always willing to help.
Steve

Probably cap and rotor first if it's about that time, might as well do the plugs and the wires as well. I know when I first bought my car I was planning to do that right away and a year later when I did it, my car pulled a lot harder and most the in my exhaust didn't come back after cleaning it out.

Although 5th gens run around a 11.5 AF ratio with a massive retard at the stock VTEC point. so there is no real way around getting all the soot gone, but yeah you shouldn't be puffing smoke, good sign your engine isn't igniting the mixture the entire way.

Ridiculous.

I'd start with tune up basics like plugs, wires, cap, rotor, clean/replace air filter...

You don't have some ebay tuner chip do you?

If you just got the car, it is possible that the last owner did not drive it like he stole it. This could just be a lot of buildup getting blown out. I would say go ahead and do the tune up basics as suggested above.

How many miles? Maybe some seafoam would be good before you change your plugs and oil.

try seafoaming it... my h22 lude has 200+ thousand on it and i did it and it ran a little better afterwards. is it a vtec? does it bog down at all in the rpm range? does the engine at idle sound normal to you? ticking of the valves?
