Default any tricks to getting the fuel pump filter lower in the gas tank?

I have a 1991 Prelude and when the gas tank gets to 1/3 or lower the fuel pump has a hard time sucking up gas - causes the car to stall. The gauge seems to read correct, at 1/3 tank I can get 10 gallons into the 15.9 gallon tank. The tank does not appear to be damaged. Can I or should I try to get the filter lower in the tank?
I have already replaced the fuel pump and that did not make any difference.

Thanks

I don't think it should behave like that...did you change the filter when you replaced the fuel pump? Maybe it's something else causing the car to stall...injectors, filter, regulator, etc...

Yep I replaced the filter in the tank, under the hood, regulator, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, cleaned the TB. I have driven it enough to know it basically isn't getting fuel. I parked it on a small ramp, just enough for the fuel to move away from the pump and sure enough it just sputtered out and quit. the lower the tank gets when below 1/3 tank the less it can handle anything that pushes the fuel away from the pump.

shouldn't there be baffles in the tank? If they have rusted out it could cause your problems. Could be wrong, but just an idea.

not sure - the tank is nice and clean inside. There is at least one metal piece that looks like a baffle mounted in the tank near the filter location. thanks for the suggestion.
