I don't know what this bar is called. I am trying to figure out the name of it.
The pic was online, but the part is no longer listed for sale, so a description is not available either. Part # 17 in the pic.
It goes across the car, underneatch where the alternator mounts.

I don't think so.
I may have to take a pic of it so everyone knows which one I am talking about.
The reason I am curious is because we were able to remove my alternator by removing this bar and leaving the half shaft alone. I wanted to know the name of it so that I could inform others. Everyone has always told me that the axle had to be removed in order to change the alternator.

BINGO
that is the bar I am referring to.
Thanks for finding that. I never would have looked under the category "Engine Mounts" to find that.
OK, so, I am able to uninstall / install an alternator by taking the subframe / crossmember brace off and leaving the axle alone. However, I have the JRSC so the alternator is relocated. Can this same thing be done on NA cars with the alternator in the factory position?

Please correct me if I am wrong but with the factory IM on the car it can be removed by working it over to the pass. side of the car. Once the intake arm is removed it should be a straight shot out of the car.
Removing the alternator from under the car was a huge hassle if I remember correctly. We had to orientate the it just right so it would slide out....... I do not like that way.

sorry guys, i edited the post because i thought the OP was simply asking "WTF is this bar?" and not actually LOOKING for the part...but there you have it. number 5.

I was able to get my alternator out by just unbolting that bar and moving it aside. Saves having to unbolt a whole bunch of crap to get the bar out so you can remove the alternator. That's a PITA job btw, have fun.

Oh, I have done it several times now.
1)installing the charger
2)when the factory alternator went out
3)when the brand new acura alternator was defective and had to replace it again
4)in 2 weeks when the charger comes off.

what i do is remove the FPR and top alternator bracket (only 2 14mm bolts) and pull it up through the top of the drivers side........... the passenger side through where the intake sits works well also

I was able to unbolt the bar the then finagle it out without removing anything else.
Figuring it out the first time was a bitch, but after that it has been a piece of cake.
