Did the motor come with adjustable cam gears?

I'd guess it was a power adder gone wrong (nitrous?), but it's hard to say. Could also be a clogged injector on that cylinder making it super lean? Anyway, if the seat is not too hosed you can probably just replace the valve. At least F-series are cheap and plentiful. Good luck.

running low octane fuel could do this as well if I am not mistaken.

Yea, but then all of the valves should have been FUBARed. This is only isolated to one particular cylinder.

its hard to say could've had debris of some sort knick that spot but that would be an unlikely scenario i think...

thank you everyone for ur replies...i forgot to check the timing marks before removing the head. The cam gear is not adjustable..I forgot to mention this is the F22A1 SOHC motor...the machine shop where i took the head 2day said to check the piston rings cuz it's not firing(if those 2 valves are not sealing there is no compression, no firing right?) u think i should go ahead and remove the piston for inspection anyways...it's a little more work but i dun know how this happened and how far it goes right? Thanx....

no nos that I know of and no mods on the car, plain stock...the car has 124k miles...the shop said it would cost me $126 to replace the (2) valves, clean, resurface, inspect, and set back to spec...

Looks like you might need all four valves in that cylinder. Looks like a little nick on that top left valve as well.
