1993 Prelude Vtec
I didnt have alot of money but I was looking for a gsr or Prelude in my budget. Most of the GSR's in my budget were beaters, so I decided to look for a Prelude vtec. 4th gen Honda Prelude vtecs are pretty rare, and I thought it would be cool having one. two of my friends have 1997 Ludes, So I dont really want a 5th gen. I found a 1993 Prelude Vtec. It seems to have been takin care of well, runs good and looks good, owner seems respectable.. It has 179K. I would need a couple years to pay it off, and by then I could get a JDM h22... I need some advice on this car, is it worth 4 grand with that many miles? I want something reliable, and Im a little afraid of the milage, even though Hondas go forever.. Help me out here.
4k isnt bad for a clean 4th gen, especially a vtec model.Depending on how well it was maintained,it could last for another 100k miles,or crap out on you in 3 months.I would try to talk him down to 3500 cash, but I would make sure he had all service records, and ask about the timing belt, because it needs to be replaced every 90k,so at 180 it will most likely need it again.
I see 4th gen w jdm h22 swaps go for around 4-6500 k here in cali just depending on condition and appeal.Good luck, and forget that gsr,u will be better off with a 4th gen.

Couple years to pay off a 93 Prelude?!?!
Seems like a good price........just have it checked by a mechanic if possible. Theres alot of things that are starting to go pushing that 200k mark.
Drive the motor until it pops and then swap the JDM H22.

Yeah its a tough choice, because its super hard to find a 4th gen vtec, and when i find them they have a lot of miles.. Im just afraid that at that high of milage, everything is going to start going out. Not just the engine. But we'll see if I can talk him down a bit, save some money for some new parts

The engine could be the least of your concerns or MOST of your concerns.....
Just risks taken with buying a higher mileage car in general.....
I have a 215k mile Prelude with a fresh JDM H22 and obviously the motor is as solid as it gets but little **** is driving me nuts.......
Brakes at 4 corners over 3yrs....calipers and lines
Heater issues with controls
Bushings cracking everywhere
A/C crapped out
Steering rack starting to make some noise
You get the idea....

Yeah very true.. I dont know what to do. I can get my vtec prelude, with high miles, or a Ford Explorer with Low miles. and as you guys know, there is nothing fun about a Ford Explorer.. besides when its snowy.
