I need to replace the axel in my EF8. Yes its a real EF8 from Japan and I know I need Integra ones but I dont know exactly what ones I need. Its a B16A with YS1 tranny. SiR everything if that matters.

Just need to know the correct one so I dont buy ones I cant use.

Thanks

driver's is different because of the JDM SIR intermediate shaft..

Ok well the car is RHD so are you talking about passenger side USDM or JDM? Because I need to replace my RHD passenger one. So if its different what do I use instead?

lmao.. my bad man.

RHside is the same (US passenger, JDM driver)

LH side is different (US driver, JDM passenger)

could have guessed since it is the intermediate shaft causing the length difference

There has to be a better option than that. I mean $300 for 2 axels is insane.

I bought two brand new DA axles and an intermediate shaft off a guy in marketplace for $120 shipped from long beach, CA to atlanta, GA (a few thousand miles).. so, you might be able to find a deal somewhere

I would go ahead and swap the intermediate shaft out, so next time around you won't be lookin' for "special" axles.. DSS will sell just one axle, but it's still $150

here's the part number and exploded diagram of the shaft and axles

well the SiR left side axle is exactly the same as a 86-89 integra axle with a 90-93 inner joint and the right side is in b series axle

so you could build one or have a shop build one... there are several shops near me that rebuild axles and driveshafts and differentials.. but not too sure about canada

i just went through this on my ef8.

initially i used the axles that i used in my usdm swapped crx that worked. Didnt work. binded bad. Engine placement is very different on the ef8/9

what works

1. left side . 90-91 or 92-00 midshaft with corresponding axle. but you must take the dust ring out of the hub.

2. left side. ideally if u have the y1 midshaft, u want to make a si-r axle. 87-89 integra shaft and outer joint with 90-00 inner joint. you do not have to remove the dust rings if u have this setup.

3. right side - u must use a si-r style axle. i tried every year integra axle i can find and they all bind badly.
u can leave the dust shield in.

BTW i think raxles.com can make u exactly what u need.

which is what i should have done. i cannibalized 4 brand new axles.

If I am sitting inside of the car what side is left side and what side is right side?

sitting in the car your right side would be your driver side and your left side would be passenger side, noting your car is a right hand drive car

Anyways i believe your engine bay is different from ours, your bay should be designed the same as a 90-93 integra, the ys1 tranny came with the gsr over here im pretty sure... I know for a fact that for a y1 tranny in a usdm that the axle on the engine side is the 86-89 integra axle with the 90-93 integra inner joint, (i built mine myself it took about hour after i bought some snap ring plyers) fits perfect no binds or slippage For the tranny side any b series axle from 88-00 will fit

I may be wrong and the part i would need someone to second that, your bay may just simply need a 90-93 integra axle on the engine side <----- just a thought since your engine bay is supposably different.. the hole reason you have to my aftermarket mount kits for b series to fit in the crx is because the bays are different, for instance a b16 will need mounts in a crx but not in a 90-93 integra (jdm crx and civics engine bays are designed the same as the 90-93 integra bays)

regardless of lhd or rhd

sitting in the car left is left , right is right.

tranny side is right side, mid shaft side is the left/

engine placement is a tad bit different then a DA, and axle geometry is alot different due to the hubs location.

If you have a ys1 tranny ,integra axles should work fine. My crx with a b16 and ys1 uses stock integra axles. My mounts must place the engine the same as a sir because the stock sir linkage fit fine.

i have a rhd si-r/

everyone chiming in is giving advice based on their usdm chassis which is the cause of confusion.

is your midshaft the original one that came with your car? if so, then you have the y1 midshaft that requires you to use a si-r axle.

the best way around it so u don't need to make custom axles everytime is to use a 90-93 integra midshaft/axle combo or 94-00 midshaft/axle combo.

heres everything u need to know http://web.archive.org/web/200...s.htm

i used axles from the 86-89 teggy and they worked awesome, no binds or anything, and the splines are the same. used a usdm ls midshaft. when i tried to use 90-93 axles they bound up really bad.

If you had used the inner joint from the 90-93 it would fit even better the inner joint from the 86-89 is smaller then the 90-93 integra joint. Results in not changing them out would lead to the shaft bottoming out in sharp turns, which eventually causes it to break <------ From what i learned anyways, theres a site around that explains the details and also has side by side comparison pictures of all the intermediate shafts and drive shafts etc..

I'll post up when i find the site

It's simple

Driverside - 92 integra

Passenger - 92 integra inner joint on an 89 integra axle = jdm sir axle

If you have abs in your car make sure to get abs axles.

You might want to think about getting a 90-93 integra halgshaft to make life simple

To bad the only place you can get midshafts from are off of other vehicles or from the dealer, i had to make a custom axle cuz i could not find the midshaft, also he has a ys1 tranny, so what you are saying is that he needs the integra gsr axle... which cant be right because it will be to long i believe unless the bay is like i said just like an integra bay which i think it is

just remember that you'll have to do the same thing next time... if you swap intermediate shafts, you can buy integra axles from autozone with a lifetime warranty.. trade 'em in whenever they get worn out

but if you really wanna pay $200 for one axle everytime it goes out... be my guest

I mean, you freaked out earlier about $300 for two axles!

theres always mid shafts on ebay for 50bux

regardless of how the bay is , if u have a y1 shaft you need a custom axle.
