I went to a local place that sells after market body panels called Certifit. They do not carry the roof skin at all. So from what I know already is that the dealer sells the roof around 300 bucks... The junkyard will sell me a used roof in cond, that i must cut off myself for 150.00. I want to know if any one else sells after market body panels. that i may be able to order a new oem roof.
the reason for getting the roof skin, is that the bondo on the roof hiding years of rust is finally coming off. I would rater repair the roof correctly...

Well, aftermarket isn't OEM, but check with your local distributors. There are several out there. Some salvage yards even deal aftermarket parts, call them all and go with the best price.

Yeah used is the way to go, just look over it real well and make sure it had no previous repairs. Usually you can find them in good condition and all they need is prepped and refinished. It'll be a pain having to remove it yourself, but it'll give you practice for installing it on your ride (if you have never done one).

That's a nice write up, I'd definately follow that. Also if you don't have access to a welder you can also use metal to metal bonding adhesive by Lord Fuser, it's a very strong adhesive, it works great.
You can just weld the front and back, and then just use 3M panel bond. Believe it or not the panel bond is stronger than a weld. Have seen the demonstration with my own eyes by 3M. Dont use get a used one, its a total pain in the *** its like doing the job twice. Just buy and OEM one im sure its pretty cheap. Putting a roof on is ridiculously easy.

Yeah that's all we do at our shop, tack weld a few spots, panel bond the rest. That panel bond is strong as hell. As for going OEM or Recycled, OEM would be easier, but it would be cheaper for used. If it were me, I guess I would spend a little extra and get OEM, to cut down on the work lol.

what's the best way to clean the tac weld once the roof skin has been set? would you guys recommend cleaning the weld with a wire brush on a drill.... this way the weld it's self doesn't turn into rust later

Grind it down, use etching primer, smooth it out with plastic filler (bondo, w/e you wanna call it), then use all the steps you normally would from body work to painting it.
