Default Bigger Wheels

I have put some 17" ep3 civic type r alloys on my dc2 and i know it will affect the handling of the car. But will make adjustments to the suspension help correct the handling

Shouldn't be a problem, just get some lower profile tires, get the car aligned to accomidate any suspension tweeks, and you'll be set.

Most DC2 owners think 17"s are too large for our cars, I think they look good honestly.

I thought the EP3 CTR wheels had a hugely inward offset to them, something like a +55 or so.

If so, that might explain part of the handling differences. Maybe try some spacers.

^ Jesus.

Yeah, some spacers might help with that, haha.

sounds right.....

this is why i never liked the 00-03 s2k fronts on the itr.... the offset is 55 and it sits inside the wheel wells to much....

definately needs a spacer

at least 10 mm

which means extended studs

I thought if you put low profiles on the alloy and you changed the alloy to tyre ratio then you would affect the speedo

changing the overall diameter of the wheel/tire combo when compared to stock will effect the speedo.

If you get 17" wheels, just get 205/40-17 tires and you'll be all set. They have the same outer diameter as stock, so they won't affect the accuracy of the speedometer/odometer.

downside of 17" - stiffer ride, tramlining and more unsprung weight

upside of 17" - fits bigger brakes, more choices of tyres, looks good

finding 16" performance tyres sucks - there's way more available in 17"

I say go 17"

I'm on 17s, they look good... I'm going back to 16s...

not nuff said? here's the reason:
When I'm cornering the steering wheel doesn't always start to turn back by itself... like it's locking up... This is SOLELY accountable to my 17" setup, as I never had any problem with this when I was on 16s... It's not a BIG problem either, but it's there...

that's why I'll be on OEM 16s soon

so: go 16. Big phat R is right, except I don't think you should worry about the tyre choice too much.

For 16" wheels, there are plenty of street tires available in 205/45-16 or 215/45-16, including top-of-the-line summer tires (e.g. Goodyear F1 GS-D3), supersticky specialty tires (Falken Azenis RT-615), "bang for the buck" budget performance tires (Kumho SPT), and all-season tires (Kumho ASX). Not many winter tires or R compound track tires though, for those who need those.

The same thing is true of 205/40-17 tires for 17" wheels.

stock brakes outperform the tyres anyway

stick with 15's for the real driving experience

if you want to just look good go for 17's

but then, if you didn't buy the car to drive it properly, why have a Type-R?

am i being a cynical bastard?
