I have a 2001 2-door Civic EX with the Vtech engin. I am pushing 100k miles and am having to replace some OEM parts due to wear and tear. I need a new air filter and am thinking about a K&N replacement filter.

Would it be worth it for me to pay the extra bucks to get a "cold air" intake (with the tube, etc), or its the extra 100 bucks not worth it?

Also, is the K&N filter really better than the OEM?

just buy a oem filter from honda.

 

I couple of my friends put K&N filters in their cars and it screwed them good. Pieces of both their filters got sucked off and reaked havoc in the engine. OEM is good enough. If you want to drop more money and add some plumbing under the hood get the AEM intake, it will pretty much just give you a deeper tone from engine when you get on it. dont expect gobs of power from it though

 

I have Vtech phone ...not the engine...

not worth it..you have 6 year old car...unless you are planning on driving the car for 10 years more...

 

I put a K&N cold air intake in my 02 sedan and i love it, you can hear it really good, and i can definately feel the upgraded power, not alot, but definately noticeable. It also made my engine a little deeper and made it sound really good. I got mine for $155 out the door at auto zone.
I did lose gas mileage, but just casue i drove it harder.
I would give it 9.5/10 in satisfaction.
ANd for the price i couldnt beat it

 

I've been running a K&N filter for 17,000+ miles. So far so good.
I'd say OEM or K&N.
Don't waste your money on a CAI or SR. But if you're all about looks and sound go
for it.

I bought a K&N oem replacement and dropped it in my stock box and the butt-dyno said that I lost low-end torque. I don't think I pickcd up any top-end either.

Put back in the new OEM honda filter and the car regained its torque.

Now, replacing the entire intake with an actual intake system will yield a little power, but don't expect anything drastic. Most of the power that you'll pick up will be on the topend.

damn you must be tripping cause if you can feel the power increase, i can hear the sound increase but no power for me

1) look up placebo effect
2) louder sound does not equal power
3) how are you sure you lost gas mileage? how the hell did you guage this?
4) aftermarket intake = waste of money
5) power gains under 10ish HP is not noticeable, unless your a human dyno.

 

 

i heard that cold air intake burns oil after 80k miles... (around there)

Alright, i can be the first to admit, i know nothing about engines,
1. but i did feel a better acceleration power once i got intake, like i said definately not alot but noticeable.
2. Next, i never said louder sound equals more power, those were 2 seperate comments.
3. Like i said, i drove it harder afterward so decrased my fuel efficiency
4. Thats a personnel opinion, im very happy with my intake and would do it again in a second
5. sure, i dont know that for a fact, sounds right, but my civic felt a little faster once i got it.

 

Intakes will increase your throttle response, sound, and gas mileage if driven normally.

IMO, the money spent on the K&N "brand" intake wasn't worth it.

K&N conical filter: $40
Generic intake (piping, filter and couplers): $30
There's a $70 intake. You can also sell off the crappy generic filter to one of your buddies for $20, and now you got a $50 intake.

That's the route I went, and I am pleased with it.

 

i dont know about anywhere else, but in all the places i got to in he sac area all are really promoting K7N. They looked sounded pretty reliable, but we'll see over time
