Default Cylinder misfire question

Got a code for cylinder #4 misfire, I changed the plugs, and moved the coils.
I'm still getting a code for the #4 even after I did this. It skips bad, then it goes away. I also added dry gas, didn't seem to help.
This isn't my car, so I can't tell you what lead up to this.
Is it possible to be either bad gas, or the egr valve

thanks for the help

I dont think it's going to be bad gas or the EGR valve, as its only happening on #4cyl. It would be happening across all 4 if it was bad gas, and Im pretty sure the EGR dumps exhaust back into all 4 cylinders as well.

Have you done a compression test on that cylinder yet? That is pretty much the only other thing That causes misfires that you havent ruled out. Maybe one of your valves is sticking open.

Good luck.

Well the original cel's were for all 4 having misfires, I cleared them and it came back as #4, that was why I originally thought gas. I unplugged the o2 sensors, still same thing, and egr sensor. So I ruled out all them. I doubt it has a bent valve, the car only has 20k on it, but anything is possible.
Only other thing is an injector, and now the cars to damn hot to change stuff, I'll let it cool and try them next

thanks for the response

Yea its a hot one out today, makes engine parts extra warm. I see where youre going with the injector, maybe try swapping them between another cyl, check the O ring on it while youre in there. The connector could be bad as well, in theory, you might want to test that connection.

Let us know when you have some new info, im curious to see what will resolve it.

might have to wait till tomorrow, I gotta go to work soon
but on a side note, I unhooked the coil while the car was running and it ran like poop (which is expected), but I didn't get a misfire code
so.........what tells the ecu that a cylinder had a misfire

Normally a crank angle sensor or a top dead centre sensor can detect misfires. I think the D17 has a TDC sensor?

Maybe youre having an issue with that coil, its only happening so often so maybe bad grounding or something?

ok, so I changed the injectors around, moved coils again
adjusted valves (they were slightly off, not much)
compression check was good, but when I pulled the #4 spark plug it was spotless. It looked like I had just pulled it out of the box. (all the rest had normal carbon on them)
I'm really stumped now

Almost sounds like you are not getting spark/fuel to that cyl.

New developments
yesterday, I figured I'd give it one last look. And I found that the wire at the back of the plug on the #4 injector had started to come loose. So I slid it in and so far no problems. I don't see how I missed it, or more importantly how it come loose.
Hopefully that fixes it
