BLOWBY! Rip my boosted h22a Pics!
Well I got my install done saturday night at about 1am so out I went to drive it. I was very cautious... I started it, checked for leaks...none. Went for a drive around the block, came back checked for leaks, none! I went for a drive, got into boost, maybe 3-4 psi. Came back, feeling good, slight hesitation when transitioning from vacuum to boost but that is to be expected (fmu, inline fuel pump!) Checked for leaks, none, checked some other things, feeling confident about my work. I then set out to meet up with my drunk *** buddies to show it off, rolling with no bumper of course to show off the intercooler. On the way their mashed it and had a noticeable hesitation, but felt really strong! No big deal,... I would spend Sunday figuring it out. Anyway I show them blah blah blah, on the way back I mash it and hear a strange sound, not too loud, and suddenly the car idles rough as hell. **** i burnt a valve, I think. Compression is as follows, 205, 117, 96, 207.
F%#K!!!!! Well that was fun, for 2 hours! Anyway I pulled the head, valves looked good, turned out to be rings, blowby obvious on the cylinders. I am going to still test for leakage at the valve seats just in case. Anyway, haven't pulled the pistons but I will do that as soon as I can stop crying for a few hours!
I knew that having 10.6:1 compression wouldn't leave me much room for error but damn! Here is my setup:
Jdm h22a-stock internals, custom i/c piping, revhard manifold, griffin 10x20 i/c, blitz bov, tial .35 bar spring 35mm wg, t3/t04e, Msd 6 btm set to .5 degrees per pound of boost, w/ 2 stage rev limiter, greddy profec b, 2.5 inch dp flared to 3" to an N-1 muffler, other little things.
So I am going to toss an f22a into it so I can have something to F#%king drive and then I need about $4000 to build my h22a to my desires! I am so HAPPY I could kill myself
I HAVE PICS, but I don't know how to post so if you can HOST them for me I will get them to you!!!
... and I didn't even have it going long enough to get welcomed to the dark side.

Hey hey hey... Have I got new for you....
I've got a buddy that wants to go high compression in his H22... He's got Wiseco Low compression pistons swinging on crower rods that came out of a built motor with low milage on it <less than 10k> and he's looking to get rid of them...
Make an offer, and I'll pass it on.

Man that sucks. If you are going to get another motor though and build it, then boost the heck out of that one until she blows really good, then junk it!
the ring lands on the h22 are really ****ing weak. all four of mine went, but gradually rather than suddenly like yours. i'll be back up in a few days after about 3 months of downtime, $5000, and a trip to golden eagle and back for the block.
I would actually say that ring lands and rings on all stock honda motors don't like boost. My sohc vtec will attest to that! Hopfully she'll be purring again once I get that mother peiced back together with my shinny new Arias pistons and rings.
hm, I was thinking of boostin my b18b to 7psi with stock internal... should I get piston and rings (JE) b4 boosting it.. I rather not, if I dont have to...
btw, what's a blowby

Sloaccord, I IM'd you, I have the pics, can someone host them for me? I don't know how to put up pics, hook me up.
email me all the pics I'll post them... rml37@columbia.edu
how exactly does your engine blow after only running 4psi this is definately a turn off to going to the "dark side". I always read about people saying how reliable turbo is compared to supercharger. How did you blow your engine only running 4psi, is it because you have higher compression? Even then 4psi isn't that much.
yeah man that is what I thought too!! I am still investigating, I believe I must have already had a problem that I was not aware of. I tested the valves and exhaust valves in two cylinders were somewhat leaky as well! So whatever I guess, she is getting a full rebuild now!! Hondata too, I will keep you guys posted. Thanks.
My car LOVED the bottle, she couldn't get enough of it! But yeah, going through bottle after bottle probably didn't help!

Good luck with the rebuild
