I'm looking at an 04 S2000. The problem is that it has the Ap1 features(00-03) features such as the 16 inch wheels, no cd changer, the plastic rear window on the convertible top, and where the cd player is its all black instead of the silver cover. The vin# and carfax says its an 04. I'm thinking the reason being is because it was first purchased in Quebec (Canada). Other that its features the car is in excellent condition. Any feedback please. Thanks

 

Well, first I must correct you on a few things. 02 and after have a glass rear window. None of them come with a CD changer, it would be an option from Honda.

For pricing information, just look at KBB or NADA.

 

which engine is listed in the sales ad?
'00-01: plastic rear window, carpet center console, F20 engine.
'02-'03: glass rear window, leather center console F20 engine.
'04-'05: glass window, leather console, 17" wheels, F22 engine, oval exhaust tips, new front bumper design.

 

It doesnt say which engine is listed. It has the platic rear window with a leather console, but the vin says its an 04. Could this be because its from Quebec? I also noticed on the 04 and up on the top of the valve cover it has has the gold cover. This one doesn't

I have the pricing. I was was just trying to make sure I'm giving the right amount of money for the right year model. It has the plastic rear window , I think it was a leather console, but its titled as an 04.

 

I'm guessing someone swapped all the good stuff out of the AP2 with their 00/01 AP1. If it's a good deal and you don't care about the features then go for it, but I wouldn't pay normal price for an 04 because of what it's lacking.

 

I would stay away from it. S2000 prices have come down quite a bit. You can find good used ones that don't have any strange questions like this for a reasonable price.

As for Quebec, I understood the changes to the 04 were for the "North American" market, and that included Canada. I am not 100% sure about this, but I have met members of the S2000 community from Canada with glass rear windows.

 

It could be that for some reason or another the top had to be replaced. See if there is a defroster switch on the dash. But even if there is a switch, I'd stay away from the vehicle. Why would the top need to be changed? And why did they use one w/o a glass window. That is of coarse if it really is an 04 model. Just seems kinda sketchy with all the other AP1 stuff on it too.....
