Default Head Gasket Question.

Hello everyone-

There is an ad in my local paper for an '87 Civic. 52,000 original miles...no rust. the ad says it has a blown head gasket. Asking $350 obo. I left them a message asking if it was a hatch, sedan, or wagon, doesn't really matter much I suppose.

How hard is it to change a head gasket on our Civic's? I have never done one, but is it a one day job, or more of a weekend project. The head isn't held on there by too much right? I figure it'd be worth buying.

All input would be appreciated.

Thank You!

i have never looked at an 87 civic and i dont know much about them but i dont see why you couldnt get it done in a day.

Is it carb or fuel injection?

I have no clue, I'm assuming carb. The person never called me back. Maybe it's been sold. Seems like a good deal to me though. Especially if the body is in great shape. It should be...52,000 miles...

not so sure about an 87 but on my 91 i did a head gasket in 3 hours. i dont see that being much different, just take your time and make sure you have the right tools. and a helms manual will help out ALOT too.

Will do. I figured it would be worth a shot. A civic with that low of miles, and no rust is very rare for my area (upstate NY). Seems like it would be a great deal if that is all that is wrong with it.

If they call back I'm going to offer 300.
