Were you happy with them?
How did they wear?
Would you recommend them to someone else?
Did you wish you were on something else?
I was using Toyo RA-1's. Overall I was very pleased with them. They stayed pretty consistant the whole time and gave good feedback when I was overdriving them. They seemed to wear evenly as well. The only time this wasnt the case was the 4th session of the second day. Probally the hottest it had been all event. I got them too warm and they felt a little "squishy or gooey" under bracking and turning. The very next lap I did a lazy spin in T1. Upon further inspection, there was a scorched line on the driver's side, front and back about one inch wide towards the outside of the tread pattern. The pass side did not have this scorching. Does that tell you anything?
I had planned on running Azenis 615's but Wes talked me into the RA's and now I don't know how I could ever go back to something else.

I was on 615's myself. Couldn't complain at all. Had grip when I needed them.
Wear was fine. Still have another DE left in em.
I'd highly recommend for any of those looking for a "stickier" tire, but not ready for a full R comp tire.
I'd like to try some R comps myself, but I'm still "learning" the car so I'll wait until next year. CMP, then Sebring then after that I'll give em a try.

I think your dad liked my hooooooooosiers ;-)
You are right - don't switch to an r compound yet.
My hoosiers were 1 1/2 years old & had 3 race weekends on them. Corded the suckers before the last session, so I packed up.
For Advanced drivers & HPDE driving, I highly recommend the wear and grip of RA1s. Good bang for the buck. Mine lasted through 2 expos, 2 other hpdes, and 2 race weekends before cording those at my warm up hpde this spring.

Yes, and also because of you and Jim (not walker) he is now inclined to sell his truck/boat/rustang and get a new setup...

I seem to recall car #420 with Ryan driving passing some RA-1 cars, on Azenis RT-615. actually i seem to recall that being one of the fastest cars out there, and on street tires. (and just i/h and suspension stuffs)
I drove that car a lot and have to say that they were the best i'd driven on yet. car is well set up too, tires have it a bit easier.

I’m running on my second set of Kuhmo V710 tires and am still amazed at the grip these tires develop.
I consistently broke 1.25G into the Hog Pen and was between 0.95G and 1.05G on most corners. I pulled between 0.9 and 1.0G a few times through the esses at a steady speed of 121MPH (with some room to spare) but decided to slow things down a little for the sake of my family (car doesn’t have a cage yet).
I still have a few more track days left in these tires and will surely buy them again.

Not bad.. I still need to check my data from my last session and compare it to the last time I was at VIR..
ps.. tartje was right.. I was running 3-4 year old 215 Azenis not 615..

Ryan if effn QUICK!!!
I rode with him for a few laps and was WOWED!!! Wicked fast, percise and excellant car control. Between 2 and 3 he'd put it out there real quick, just to pull it right back in like it was a damn game or something. Absolutely amazing driver!!!

I was on all-seasons at the Expo.
But when I have my own car at the track, I use the RA-1 also. I enjoy not only their grip and predictability, but also their relatively low price and long life (for an R comp).
I'm typically getting 1200-1800 track miles (plus 400-500 street miles between the track and the hotel) on the RA-1 on the ITR, starting with full tread depth and using them until the belts are showing, rotating them front vs rear (and flipping them if they don't wear evenly across the tread).
I get my RA-1 from my homey Todd at Frisby, but the prices on the Edge Racing website are even lower than his ($120 vs $135 for 205/50-15).
There are a lot of very good R compound tires these days - Toyo RA-1, Nitto NT-01 and NT-555II, Kumho Ecsta V710 and V700 Victoracer, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, Hoosier R6, Yokohama A048, Avon Tech RA, Hankook Z211 and Z214, Pirelli PZero Corsa, BFGoodrich g-Force R1 - and most of them are available in 205/50-15. I don't hear people claiming that any single tire is a "must have" compared with others, unless you're actually competing, in which case it may be worth spending the higher price for the Hoosiers.

I was on 615s also. They did great as usual, but they would fall off noticably about 2/3rds of way through the session. I think once I even came in early bc I was sliding around a bit too much for my taste. But for $74 a tire or whatever, they are outstanding HDPE tire.

225/45-15 Hankook RS2
They were decent. A little too much sidewall IMHO makes the tires feel squishy and slow in transitions (kind of like a cantelever slick feels). Max grip and heat handling were good. They were, however, no match for Hawk Blue equipped ITR brakes in a 2000lbs car.

Dunlop DJ01R "JDM muddafukka's" in 215/50/15.
As I've been told they are close to the A032R soft compound and did more than the job. A better choice for me than full tilt R comp's like one's I've run in the past: V700's and R3S03's. And much grippier than the Azeins 215, the last Azenis I've run on track. Although I must admit, put some hotshoe like Ryan (CanuckR) in my R and he'd lay me to waste to me easily with my own car with said tires
never used ABS and always felt awesome once I found the proper pressure, 32F hot, 33R, hot even running two sessions back to back with less than 5 minutes inbetween.

I noticed a very similar pattern actually. I had to watch my turn in speeds on certain corners much more carefully once i started to notice the "fall off" as JASMA pointed out. If i took a lap or two easier through some of the corners i noticed an immediate improvement back to the way the tires performed at the beginning of the session though.
P.S. ...... Ryan is without a doubt one of the best drivers i know, and would compete very well if wanted to take his hobby to the next level

which is why I try to grab him as ballast/instructor whenever I get the chance. He kicks ***, has an awesome calm demeanor and always has constructive comments at the end of a session, as long as we don't go lawn mowing.

So basically Ryan needs to shrink like half a foot and he is set for F1
Oh what i would give to see an F1 car flying through INDY with a Team Lzy banner on the side. The world will have been won... oh yes, oh yes
