Default How to Change your oil with a lowered integra?

For the first time i tried to change my own oil. But as i jacked it up it didnt seem high enough off the ground at all jack points. the car is only like 1 in from my face and i cant get the leverage to unbolt the oil pan. Are there jacks that can jack the car to higher than other jacks? Or should i get ramps? I was wondering how do you guys change your own oil when your car is lowered? Or what advice would you give me thanks.

you use you stock tire jack to jack up the car a little. then you put your jack under to jack it up.

if you're trying to unbolt the entire oil pan for an oil change, you're doing too much

drive the car on blocks of wood. then use your jack to get it up higher. my civic is pretty low and i have no problems getting a regular craftsmen jack under there and getting it up high enough.

LOL Even BEFORE lowering my car, just having a Type R lip on the front hits the ramps before it can go up!

As mentioned. Drive your car onto 2x4 blocks of wood. I put them just before the ramps and it goes up a bit and clears as it rides up the ramp.

Or dig a pit in your front yard.

i have to jacks... one thats a low profile. i put that on the front side jack point, then i use my dads "truck" jack on my front to raise it up hella high.

I bought a jack that is 4" high and lifts to 18 3/4" but I still have to either "force" it under or use my back up track jack to lift it up a little than put her in the sky.

BTW - 19 and doing your first oil change? Welcome to the 21st century.

Any decent size floor jack should get the car high enough to change the oil ...

Here's how I get it done:

1. Drive front wheels up on 2 x 4's
2. Jack up one side and put a jackstand under the stock jackpoint
3. Repeat with other side
4. Do the dirty work
5. Reverse order to get back down

By the way, I'm using a 3.5 ton craftsman hydraulic floor jack with a maximum height of 20 in.

Hope that helps

How do you have 900 posts, but can't jack up a lowered car?

My gangsta floor jack doesn't go high enough to get my jackstands under the car. So I have put a piece of wood on top of the jack for added height.

Once, I was working on my previous car and the piece of wood broke, the car fell off the jack and it made a decent dent in the gas tank. Wee!

(luckily, my head wasn't under the car and I was in the process of lowering it)

You can't get enough leverage to remove the Drainbolt??
What are you, 100lbs, and 5" tall?? ..

Oh, and on a serious note I guess .. Small jack, then Big jack. Easy?

Nah sorry im a bit bigger than that. maybe 5'10 150. Im not as puny as your dad. I am talking about the lack of leverage because of minimal space under the car. Maybe if the car was not 1 inch from my face i would be able to use my strength.

Oh, I'm sorry, That's much Much bigger, damn,
I'm surprised you don't snap that oilpan straight off the car.

And yeah, you're right, it's prolly about a foot off the ground to begin with,
so ****, that's barely any clearance under there ..
Plus, who the fuck has ever heard of using a hammer, or other blunt object to hit the ratchet..

If you can't even figure out other ways to get ONE small little Bolt off,
you need to rethink about even owning a car, Cause I bet that key, and doorlock is even worse..
