Clutch problem (splines stripped)
I replaced the clutch in my friends DA with a centerforce four puck and flywheel.
All seemed fine till he tried to shift down to 2nd from 3rd and lost all gears. pull the tranny and found the splines in the clutch stripped. any ideas?

was the clutch broke in when you down shifted? how high in the rpm range did it go? did the spine have any grease from the throw out bearing on it from installation?

What could any of these things possibly have done to shear the teeth in the center of the hub?
I have run the **** out of an unsprung 6 puck without any issues. I know the springs are for vibrational damping, but I don't see how they'd cause teeth to shear.
Maybe there is something wrong with a batch of clutches, hubs made from the wrong material.
I'd call Centerforce if it were me.

I wasn't in the car when when it broke, so I'm not sure how it all went down.
We did call Centerforce but its only 90 day warranty. Two other things, one could I have install it wrong? And we have two S1 one ls one b16 the old clutch fits both, but it doesn't fit a YS1 we have off a '92 ls?

Maybe you installed a clutch disk with the wrong spline count? Sometimes the clutch manufacturer can send the wrong one? There was a post where a guy bought a cheap clutch kit, he dropped and installed the tranny like 12 times before realizing the disk he was installing had the wrong spine count.

If it had the wrong splines, it shouldn't even fit on the output shaft.
Does the YS1 have a larger diameter output shaft? I thought that was the top-notch cable tranny in its day. Kinda like a ITR trans, before the ITR's existed.

what car is the clutch for and what model is the tranny?
A1,S1,j1,y1= small spline(use only 90-91 clutches)
Ys1= large spline(use92-01 clutches)
i would say the disk wasnt right for the tranny.
