I had the same problem and it felt like someone was playing with the VTEC right? Felt like someone kept hitting a switch to kick VTEC on and OFF when you're supposed to be in VTEC. Well, VTEC only engages when a) Temp is right b) Engine speed car speed c) Oil Pressure is good.
I had the same problem. Oil, Very important! Good luck!

5 sensors for VTEC:
Oil pressure
RPM
Speed
Temperature
Throttle position
EDIT: ALL must give an okay signal, any one of those could be keeping VTEC from activating correctly.

Well, since the others stated the obvious problem in the list of what to look at for; NO VTEC Being Low or No oil... Go check it and let us know how low it was.
You do hopefully know to check it on a level surface when the car is cold, or in the morning before you've even driven it right?
You ain't gonna get no Poontang without any VTEC!
Just cause it's Yella don't mean the girlies are gonna get all moist in the loins.
Good luck,
A.

Check your oil regularly. If still not activating after oil level is ok, could it then be VTEC solenoid? Agree, no POON TANG if the car isn't running properly...

It is normal for high reving engines to burn more oil, especially if you are driving them at high rpm all the time. Everytime a piston does a cycle, it burns a very small amount of oil (this is thrue for all engines) so when you are at 8000 rpm it is going to burn more oil then if you are at 4000 rpm.
The more you race the car the moe you will have to keep an eye on the oil level.
the same thing actually happened to me, and before that, i checked that i needed some oil. it kicked only at 7k rpm. but my car was cold then. It seems to be fine now.but you guys just reminded me to top off my oil. I gotta use other oil the next time i'm changing it. Mobil synthetic does burn oil.
