Haven't taken my car to the dealer for the last 8 years because most Service dept. people I've dealt with (GM, Acura, Honda and Toyota) are clueless and many mechanics couldn't give a damn. That being said, I found an ace mechanic at Downtown Acura that takes pride in what he does. I've known him for about 6 years and he's rebuilt two trannies for me on the side. He understands why it's important to do a good job because he also works weekends at the track for a couple different race teams.

My advice: try to do whatever you can yourself with the help of a shop manual. you'll save money and know that it was done right the first time.

^^

I have a friend that has his own shop, also owns a 98 R.

Only reason I went to the dealership is because he wanted an inspectoin, i suggested ACURA since I wanted an honest opinion for the person.

I never take my car to the stealership, rather then that.

I smell a law suit.

I would have towed it back and had a nice talk with the service manager.

I agree with you 100%.

The asshats at the Acura Dealership pretend to be professional...the people try to be super friendly..when we know that they are not.

When I had bought my R off the lot brand new....the salesman wanted me to come to his friend's barbeque for a photoshoot of my car.....?

Have been in the auto industry for many years I know all too well your feelings. The problems I have with the stealerships are as follows.

1) The service advisor doesn't know **** ALL besides what his magical little screen tells him.

2) Rarely do you ever get to talk to the mechanic. And if you do, they act like they don't care. It's like a processing plant; get 'em in and get 'em out. Dealerships make their profits from the service departments hense the adnormally high labour rate.

I take my car to one shop, and one shop ONLY. I have a personal relationship with all the guys at the shop. I know who is working on my car and what is being done at all times. They are involved in the "scene" as far as import performance so they are always enthusiastic about my car, what I'm having done to it, etc.

If you catch me taking my car to any dealership feel free to come up and SLAP me because I must be outta my mind

x3 Sadly this is sometimes the only way you can force people to step up. Even then, it's really only a threat of sticking them with a lot of costs, so they will man up and settle for the [cheaper] option of fixing what they should done right in the first place.

Any time you take the caR for service, log the mileage at the service writer's booth. Be sure they note the correct mileage on the service order form, and make sure they record the 10th's too. If not, raise hell, and be prepared to walk away. Sounds like someone in the service department took the caR for a joyride, and pounded the rotors into heated submission, possibly warping them. This is just a guess however. Check the rest of your lugs if you have not already.

Feeling your pain. Got raped by the Acura dealer in my area also. But they were sooooooooooo nice to deal with as people

However, not everyone at dealers or mechanics is a tool. You just have to find the good people, and stick with them like glue. I wish I still lived in SM CA, where I had an independent Acura mechanic who was the absolute best. Again, word of mouth ref, not to mention we used to hang out and party together after work. Knew his shiz, gave me super duper deals, always did great work, and turned me on to tons of tips for saving money, often at the expense of his own profits. If anyone is in Westside Los Angeles, and needs a good ref, PM me for his info.

Good thing you caught it before it went bad. Here's what happen to me a little over a month ago when the shop that changed my tire didn't tighten the lugs all the way. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1980910
BTW: I called the shop that was responsible and explained the situation and the accepted full responsability and are paying for everything, even paying for the trouble such as finding a ride to places, dealing with the shop and so on. To my suprise they did not try to fight me on it.

Give me a couple of months and everything is going to look better and faster than before@!

WTF is taking this to court going to solve? I hate it when people blurt out lawsuit. On what grounds???? The dealership is sloppy, yes. But what the hell are you going to sue over? Ignorant morons with no common sense are what's driving North America into a litigious swamp.

You need to watch who you just throw into this pool and call us douche bags for being a tech at a dealership. Some of us do care about what kind of work we do. Like anyone else who cares about their car you should have watched who had it in their service bay and what they did with it. There is a real good chance it wasn't even a real technician who looked at it. People with rare or expensive cars come back and watch and talk to us all the time. Also if someone left a wheel loose like that where I work, would be charged for the damage and then fired. You should have everything looked over and replaced at their expense if it had any damage.

Thats awful broken_dc2.. those pics make me squirm.

If that happened to my teg.. GODDAMN..

I DONT even want to go back there man... im just going to report them to the ontario council whoever governs autoshops, and I will be reporting them to the better business bureau.

I'm going to get the car checked out at my friends Dave shops and see if there are any negative effects, so far im just getting a little bit of shudder on hard braking.

01usjdmr, don't get me wrong man. there are alot of confident and capable mechs out there, im sure you are.

Whoever worked on my car is a doucebag, thats all.

And, they won't let you into the servicing bays where they do the work, and there is no way to watch them since you are left in a lounge.

lol, speaking of the LOUNGE..

They setup the service lounge with all these leather modern day sofas, looks great and all, and I guess I respect what Acura is trying to do with their "Image" - *(upperclass) acura thing they got going nowadays..

So i sat there for 30 minutes looking at books dedicated to "art".. and reading about some artists i never heard of, and Van Gough (sp).. I guess thats what rich people do..

OMFG BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! place can't offer a goddamn newspaper for us simpletons?

ahha

I would definitely have this service manager do something about it. I would try to get new rotors out of it or have them turned. If you had damaged studs or lugs or even a wheel get them to cover it. If you don't trust them see if they will let the person you know fix it, then bill them. In most cases a good service dept will atleast fix what they screwed up.

True that, seems to be about 50/50 on dealerships service departments. I'm happy with mine.

hey i feel your pain, at least you didn't get it as bad as i did. but i think people should speak up about there experiences with dealerships. it allows people to be aware.

but **** happens at dealerships all the time unfortunately and guess who is 90% of the victim, the customer, they got your business already by you purchasing the car, after that,"fack you"
