Default Running non standard length ground control springs on Koni Yellows..Suspension guru's chime in

Getting ready to order a set ground controls for my 98 Prelude. The standard length spring they use for the Prelude is a 8" spring..Any downsides to using a shorter 7" spring? Will the shorter length spring increase the chance of my yellows blowing out?

Thanks in advance!

Also any benefit of using a barrel spring as opposed to the standard style spring? Guy at ground control said the barrel spring will seat better than the standard spring and have less of a chance of binding.

short springs with softer rates tend to coil bind quicker then the longer springs. (thats not a good thing)

Barrel springs give you more spring travel before coil bind. (which is a good thing

what is the possibility of the barrel spring coming into contact with the uca? Being that it's wider in the middle?

maybe if you are running A LOT of negative camber. My car has close to 4 degrees and the normal spring is within .25 inchs of contact.

I doubt you will have that issue though

OD of barrel shaped spring will still be smaller than OE springs unless you're running pretty radical you won't have an issue.

If you're gonna run extra low you may want the run the shorter springs so you have the perch in the optimal position. Otherwise the normal springs should be fine.

Definitely get the barrel shaped springs if they make the in the rate you choose, otherwise just go with the normal shaped spring in your rate preference. I have normal upfront and barrel on the rear. No issues.

If you haven't chosen a vendor, there is a fellow here that has pretty much the best pricing on custom rates and Koni specific sleeves.
