Default Electric Problem

A couple days ago I drove my car and it kinda bogged out a little bit, like the engine was running but there was just no power going to the wheels. I drove it maybe 100 yds and parked it for 2 hours. When I came back it wouldn't start but everything electric in the cabin was fine and I smelt smoke. I checked under the hood and my positive battery wire to the starter was burnt up around the starter and burnt some of my engine harness. I replaced the battery wire and connected everything and I saw more smoke come from around the starter and now nothing in the car works except the horn. I'm replacing the whole engine harness tomorrow and from reading it looks like I need a new starter. Is there anything else I should look into replacing? I have an eg w/a z6 and the main relay was also replaced about 6 months ago if that helps any. Thanks in advance.

I think you've got urself a prob. there buddy. Have you installed anything else on your car recently that had to do with the wiring? Check all your wiring, relays, fuses and grounds. Just to make sure you dont have a short somewhere.

Nothing has been done to the wiring since the z6 was dropped in and it was running perfectly fine since march. There were 2 grounds taken off and that's how many were put back. Is it possible for grounds to go bad or for the harness to go bad?

The CEL ever came on. The day the car stopped running was 1st day anything negative was experienced.
